Detector(s) used
Nokta Velox One, Makro Racer(Red), Garret AT Pro, Garrett Ace 400, Garrett Ace 250
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
For anyone doubting the legitimacy of the Ace 250 as a serious detector (Its an OK detector for beginners), my 250 pulled an 1819 Matron Head Large Cent out of a local park this morning. It was 8 inches down and giving a solid "ding ding ding" signal. It's HEAVILY corroded... I've got it soaking in olive oil now. It's worthless, but I'm STOKED!

EDIT: I should clarify... it's monetarily worthless, but it's priceless to me. And from what I'm reading on this forum.. a pretty rare find for someone just starting out detecting.

Nice find you made. I'm from Williamsport Pa too but living in the South now. Good luck to you!

If you have the right soil conditions and the right target a lot of beginner machines will find it. My daughter and my grandson both have an Ace 350 and I was impressed with them.

I also feel that in the right hands a beginner machine can out hunt someone with a more advanced machine. Knowing your machine is a lot more important than the cost of it.

Nice find on an old coin.

Fantastic large 1819 cents find with an Ace 250 and congrats to you - great depth & I am impressed and thanks for posting your pictures and story.

Nice find. I still haven't found a large cent.

Nice copper

The 250 is a nice little unit. I put one to the test when they first came out found barbers and Indians with it the first day out. Bought two one for dad one for nephew. Knowing the machine is key not how many bells and whistles it has

Please post pic post-soak? Thx!

Will do! Do you know how long most guys soak these for? I have read anywhere from 1-2 days to weeks. Just wondering where the point of diminishing returns is... though I'm guessing that every situation is going to be a little different.

Congrats, you are definitely hooked now. It feels so good to find a nice old copper... There's no doubt the Ace 250 is a fine little metal detector. I have made some sweet finds with mine, too. That said, I can't wait until I can afford to upgrade, because I'm always wondering what I might be swinging over and missing, lol.

Best of luck!

Congrats my man. The best part is your enthusiasm! I like it.

That copper is "priceless", not worthless.

Best of luck to you!

Far from "Worthless" I still have never dug a LC in 18 years.

Might get me a 250 to keep in the car for those JIC Times.
Great Hunting.

IMO You are correct ,every Coin is Different.
I'd say soak a week or More , check it everyday if u want.
I had some (Still have) some Wheat's soaking In EVOO for 2-4 years. Came out ok , but it it's Pitted into the Metal of the coin , it can only get so clean.
Def, A Keeper , & Welcome to the T-Net site.

Garret paid me for a while to use puctures of my early ACE250 finds on their catalog cover. It's a fine machine at any price once you accept its limitations

Congrats on the great find! Soak it for 48-hours turning is several times, then use a soft toothbrush and dish soap. :occasion14:

I'll grab my 250 b4 my f5. Especially if I am looking for jewelry! Lots of gold comes under foil and the 250 is very sensitive to it!

The "two-fitty" is a solid machine, as evidenced by your awesome find Jeremiah!!! Well done!

Very nice find, congratulations! :occasion14:

I used the 250 for 3 seasons and it was OUTSTANDING after I learned to speak it's language--I would run at full screen in all metal and paid attention when it spoke. NOW____the step up to the ATPro opened a whole new world by added depth, loudness correlated to depth, the VDI and the subtle audio tones as the coil senses EVERYTHING in the ground. the ATPro at full screen in all metal mode does not false and and the DD coil can snipe a dime hiding in iron. I run neck and neck with a seasoned pro using the Minelab SE Pro and we both generally see the same target. if you are serious about diggin' plan on the upgrade
