Our family has owned a large farm for about 200 years and many things have washed up over the years. I decided to buy a machine and after playing around with it I hit a field. I know it's not close to great things I see here but I'm trying

I do hear you now. And agree completely . However that's not what you said in your previous post. You said "if he had a junkyard".
You can see how I read this to mean that If I fall down because I climbed on the guys junk pile, I should sue him!
And that's where the problem started. I never mentioned anything about "should" sue. I was pointing out that if someone has a hazardous property to be on (hazardous = DANGEROUS), then I could understand suing. But then, anyone with that type of property shouldn't be allowing others on in the first place. I'm talking about "hidden dangers" here.

I do not consider a plowed field to be "hazardous". It's a farm field and requires due diligence and common sense.

...My apologies everyone - guess I'm having a VERY off-day with my wording. :notworthy:

Nice finds! Welcome to Tnet!
I started metal detecting to learn the history of my family's property...such a fantastic hobby. I certainly agree that many stories can be told about a piece of property, but to actually find proof is so rewarding. There are people on here that run a metal Detector like Kenny G plays the Saxaphone...you will get better with your machine every time you go out! Good Luck!

Those are some promising finds that are certainly indicative of what else could be found at the site. Seeing things like that lying on the ground in a field is what gets the heart racing.

Thanks for the replies. How do I find people to help me learn my detector and Want to detect our property.?

You could go to the SC section and make a post asking for what you want - someone in your area to detect with and/or learn from - however you wish to write it up.

Darn good site! Hunt it hard

Don't give up the best awaits you trust me, I been in this hobby for 21 years, get to know your machine well, and watch the difference, best of luck to yah ....

Yes I hope I can find something really special to post. Thing is we know Everyone for miles around since we have been here a longtime and access to other properties wouldn't be a problem i don't think. But hunting our property will take a long while.
I hope to learn from tnet about my detector and how to search and ID items. Everyone seems helpful here.
Since you know a lot of other farmers in the area, ask if any of them ever notice china and pottery turning up when they plow. That is a good indication that an old house sat in that field and is a great spot to check out.

I would hit the creek area hard. Also where ever you found the pottery shards. I think that that is usually a good sign that there might be older finds present. Go slow. Dig everything and good luck!
