Wow!!! What an unbelievable day it was!! :o McEtrac had generously invited me to join him at 11:00 at Washington Park to give me some pointers on the E-Trac. Watercolor was riding with me, and DP Bob took his own car because he wanted to get an earlier start and was planning to hit the beach with the rest of the group at Jackson Park first. As we were getting close to downtown, Bob called us and said that there was a fresh excavation at the beach and that deep sand had been dug up and spread all around. Old coins were coming up, and a Barber half had just been found. Needless to say, we decided to take a detour first before we went to Washington. ;D Bob talked us in on the phone and we soon joined nine other hunters on the beach. :)

Twenty minutes later, I had several green encrusted pennies and a 1920 Merc. As the day went on, it became a fun routine of hearing about the latest silver that was dug, and it seemed that it was one right after another. We took a break for a rest and a group photo, and then went back to the hunt. I know that late in the day, I was ready to leave, then Dan and Jon each found a quarter in an area that we had all swung through. Well, I decided to stay "a bit" longer and found a silver George. Later on, ready to quit again, I had the detector turned off, but Mark found a signal to dig. I turned it back on and after going over to check Dan's great Cracker Jack toy, I swing and hit on the '28 SLQ. Next time, I'll try to quit more often! We finally dragged our feet out of there at 6:00!

My total take was a 1920 Merc, a 1905 S Barber dime, a 1942 George, a 1928 S SLQ, a 1912 V-nickel, a bunch of pennies, an old compact and a little Christmas tree that I was hoping was a CJ toy, but probably is a piece of junk jewelry.

My other take, and more valuable than the coins, was getting out along Lake Shore Drive on this wonderful day and hunting with some great people! It was great to finally meet John & Brett, and to see Dan & Jon again. It's always fun to get out with Mark & Bob, and today I got to meet some of the real nice folks from Coinhunting.net! Keith, the head honcho there is a real nice guy!!! Hey Keith, that SLQ that Austin pulled out was incredible! Keith, Austin, Patrick, & Laura, it was a pleasure to meet you!

Thanks again for taking those kickin' pics, Brett! Here's a few more...

Thanks for checking it out, and I hope you guys going back for day 2 have even more luck!!!

Outstanding Neil!
If I'd known it was a silver-shoot, I'd have weasled my way out of house duty for it, but you never know when you're gonna come upon a dig like that.

Anybody make it out there today?

Great hunt.... It's like they unwrapped the paper and you took the gifts!
Strong showing from the Minelab owners. Would have liked to been there just for a mini class.
I spent the day out west getting skunked with clad. Oh well, One day I shall rule over my kingdom with the Etrac. :icon_king:

Yep, that was one special day. Magic was in the air. No matter who found what,,, just the thought that you could dig a Barber half or SLQ at 2" on the next swing, because of shouts ringing up every couple of minutes of just those finds, was something that doesn't happen too often. You ended up with a great haul Neil! A readable SLQ and the V -nick is sweet! Glad we finally got a chance to hunt together, and thanks for leaving me some goodies in the spot where you dug the Barber!

Wow!!!!!

Just an incredible day for sure....

A hunt like we had is a RARE thing...

Buddy congrats on the recoveries.....

1 more event in our hunting life that we can tell about.....

Nice hunt. Move in for the kill :laughing7: That would be an awesome hunt. WTG all of you for cleaning up the local beaches :laughing9:

Neal, It was great to meet you yesterday and it looks like you nailed a few quarters after I left around 3:00 p.m. Nice SLQ!

great post and awesome coins !

Kimsdad,
Great hunt! I was going to join you guys on Sunday but thought it was just a Washington Park day and I haven't had much success there.

I guess we'll both have to THINK about quitting more often. . . if that's what it takes to find the silver

You definitely had a AWESOME hunt!

Lots of nice finds there Neil. I have always wanted to hunt a beach. Maybe some day :icon_thumleft:

Great Job on Saturday Neil! I thought I heard say you were turning off your detector a few times and then a minute or two later you were swinging again!
Its like a little kid saying one more time. One more time. Hehe ;D

Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks for all the great comments, everyone!

John, you are right - there WAS magic in the air!!!

Dan, you hit it on the head - "I'll turn it on & swing it just one more time..." ;D

That is awesome, I hope to be able to get out on one of those group hunts.
Congrats to all of you on your findings.
