Wow!!! What an unbelievable day it was!! McEtrac had generously invited me to join him at 11:00 at Washington Park to give me some pointers on the E-Trac. Watercolor was riding with me, and DP Bob took his own car because he wanted to get an earlier start and was planning to hit the beach with the rest of the group at Jackson Park first. As we were getting close to downtown, Bob called us and said that there was a fresh excavation at the beach and that deep sand had been dug up and spread all around. Old coins were coming up, and a Barber half had just been found. Needless to say, we decided to take a detour first before we went to Washington. Bob talked us in on the phone and we soon joined nine other hunters on the beach.
Twenty minutes later, I had several green encrusted pennies and a 1920 Merc. As the day went on, it became a fun routine of hearing about the latest silver that was dug, and it seemed that it was one right after another. We took a break for a rest and a group photo, and then went back to the hunt. I know that late in the day, I was ready to leave, then Dan and Jon each found a quarter in an area that we had all swung through. Well, I decided to stay "a bit" longer and found a silver George. Later on, ready to quit again, I had the detector turned off, but Mark found a signal to dig. I turned it back on and after going over to check Dan's great Cracker Jack toy, I swing and hit on the '28 SLQ. Next time, I'll try to quit more often! We finally dragged our feet out of there at 6:00!
My total take was a 1920 Merc, a 1905 S Barber dime, a 1942 George, a 1928 S SLQ, a 1912 V-nickel, a bunch of pennies, an old compact and a little Christmas tree that I was hoping was a CJ toy, but probably is a piece of junk jewelry.
My other take, and more valuable than the coins, was getting out along Lake Shore Drive on this wonderful day and hunting with some great people! It was great to finally meet John & Brett, and to see Dan & Jon again. It's always fun to get out with Mark & Bob, and today I got to meet some of the real nice folks from Coinhunting.net! Keith, the head honcho there is a real nice guy!!! Hey Keith, that SLQ that Austin pulled out was incredible! Keith, Austin, Patrick, & Laura, it was a pleasure to meet you!
Thanks again for taking those kickin' pics, Brett! Here's a few more...
Hardcore hunters in the soup!
Here's what I went home with, aside from a big smile on my face.....
Thanks for checking it out, and I hope you guys going back for day 2 have even more luck!!!
