First 1800's coin of the year.

Have to catch up a little bit. Finally starting to get out regularly again. Feels good with warm temps. Finds are from a few different sites.

Last weekend even though the snow mostly melted the ground was frozen about 2-4” in most spots. Here are some casualties from my pickaxe. :P

Here are some that didn’t get dinged:

Then, when the weather got warm I got the fever and did a lunchtime hunt. As you can see from the picture It’s not worth starting any “lunchtime hunt” thread. ::)

Did have some luck at my mom’s. We pull a lot of junk out of the place and occasionally are rewarded with a keeper. The V Nickel was not that deep(3-4”) and IDed as a classic nickel signal. I am happy with the coin even though it isn’t the prettiest looking thing. ;D Last year it took me until December to find my first V Nickel.

Man,I think we're hunting the same place. Looks like my farm finds. ;D I see a tootsietoy there. Looks to be in good shape too.
What's the oldest wheat you found so far? I've only made it to 1917 so far.
You got to love those shotgun shell heads. They look like coins when you find them. :D
Congrats on your finds.

P.S. I can only hope to get a coin into the 1800's like your nickel.

Re: First 1800's coin of the year.

Nice finds! WTG on the V. I can't seem to get older than 1903 this year.. but I'm still trying.

Thanks!

Nice stuff Mirage, congratulations on finding the V nickel.

Whats that glassy, cabochon shaped item, it sort of looks like there is a victorian photo under the sphere, of course it could be my eyes looking at it funny.

Happy Hunting,
Johnny

Nice V-Nickle to start the year........with the snow gone. It will be soon before those large cents once again start to pop out of the ground. Oh yea! Can't forget about those old Silver pieces.............!

Good catch. You are right. Very cool. Here is the back of the pendant thing. Can't quite make out the writing.

Re: First 1800's coin of the year.

Nice looking finds Mirage. Those wheats did take a hit though. Atleast they were just wheats. Here in the NE you know how hard it is to get a mint mark anyways.

Almost every wheat we find is only worth about 1 cent anyways.
