Find These and you find the mines

As I recall under F.D.R. all silver and gold was illegal to own. My parents (God rest their souls) were children during the depression. I heard stories that many folks back then hid their silver dollars by burying them. People took old family silverware and melted it down to more easily hide it. Might be that you found someone's stash from the 1930's? If you know where it was it might be worth going back to it and have another look around?

Melting all your silver and forging a horseshoe is an ingenious way to hide your silver, very crafty. Now I'll be forever looking for old unrusted mule shoes. Thanks for sharin
