I can’t believe what I found today .... item very high on my bucket list . I called out of work I just needed a day off I wasn’t planning on hunting especially since the tide was extra high but I decided I would take the boat down the river just to get out. It’s crazy cause several things happened that if they hadn’t I probably don’t find this ... calling out of work , tide being high , and maybe what made me pay really close attention to the dark muck under the water is a water moccasin dropped out of a tree about 2 min before and I was in sandals so I was really going slow trying to find it and spotted this ...

At this point I’m saying “holy smoke” !! That’s a banner stone !! And than I’m praying please be intact please be!

Really not sure of the material it’s made from I have never seen that type of stone before around here I found another large hammer looking stone rite next to the banner that is same material the last group pic has a few points I found as well .... a great day with unexpected artifact that I’ll never forget finding

Great find.
I find it interesting that there is still some mystery surrounding the purpose and use of this type of artifact. Could the location of your find give some context as to its use? Likely not an accidental dropped item. I'd go back and scour that area.

There is no doubt that this was likely a prized possession, probably handed down generation to generation.

What luck!

I definitely will be going back it’s a river shoreline where I found it , probably was a camp there at some point .... the spot I found this had some recent erosion from this past winter and a few trees fell back away from the water so the roots and dirt are facing the beach. The tide was so high yesterday I almost didn’t even bother looking this was about 6” under the water ... still just in disbelief that it happened

Wow! Wow! Wow! Absolutely beautiful find. Congrats. Voted banner.

Well is it considered a banner find yet...if this don't get it then I know I'll never get one

it's not on the banner yet... certainly think it will. banner find regardless. i had a cache of three benton blades largest was at 6 inches ... seemed to have a bunch of votes from what people posted, but never made banner. it would be nice to have two artifacts from the N/A forum up there at the same time though.

Spray paint it gold, take a sharpie, draw an eagle on it and call it a buckle and it might stand a better chance of making banner!

Awesome find. Congratulations on the find and making Banner.

(Hope you didn't paint it gold like someone suggested! :icon_thumright: )

Congratulations on a stunning piece of history saved! Sub 8-)

What exactly is it? What was it for?
