It has been a long cold winter here in Maine. Brrrrrrrrrrr ! I have been getting out and hunting the beaches some when the weather allowed it . I have not found anything interesting enough to post on here until yesterday afternoon. Most of the Beaches in my area have been sanded in and finds have been slow for me and fellow hunters this winter. We have been impatiently waiting for a big storm to move some of the sand. So Yesterday I went to an old beach that you have to hike quite a ways into during the winter months. The effort paid off yesterday with my first Cob . It's tiny, it's worn , it's from the salt , but it is a first for me and is a proud addition to my collection now ! My best guess on Identifying the coin after using the loupe and I do mean guess. is Bolivia Potosi cob 1/2 real 1680 to 1750 . Reign of Charles the II or III. I am definetly open to other more expert opinions on the coin though ! Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting MaineRelic

Congrats on your first cob, that is something to treasure indeed. Its stunning to see the pattern of corrosion reversal in your coins. Saltwater is a completely different animal. I don't remember seeing a found V nickel (or Buffalo for that matter) with surfaces so nice. BTW, I thought I remember seeing a method to safely clean saltwater-affected silver coins. Your cob should clean up nicely, should you wish to do so.

Now there is a name i have not seen in a while:hello:

That is a sweet cob find:headbang:

I sure do miss the pre-updated Tnet days..So many great people checked out of here.....

Great finds and thanks for sharing. I think this global "WARMING" has got the best of a lot of us this winter.
For months one had to dig a hole just to find the ground and then needed a pick to dig.
Now winter has started to break and its knee deep mud and the wind is blowing so that one needs to carry an anchor to stay in place.
Yes I'm being grumpy it got warm one day so I went outside and played and now I'm in the house with the flu wishing I could be out there battling the wind and finding my treasure...

But the next best thing is being able to enjoy treasurenet and see what others have been able to find.
Do you have any history to go along with the "old beach" was it a well known or popular area at some particular time period? I like to think about the finds in relation to historical period when posible.

Congrats again on the great finds and keep up the good work.

Sweet find! Looks like a good day digging with all the targets

That is a tough one to cross off the list. Congrats on doing it !
