Deer season went out last weekend so I decided to hit an old homesite I found last year just before hunting season began. I have found a good many flat buttons here along with some pewter items so today I was working with disc set as low as it would go. Dug a lot of nails and some "BIG IRON", literally. It's my second one and hope to find one with the handle some day. I did manage a couple more buttons. One looks to be tombac. :dontknow: If so, it's my first. :)

Good Luck
Randy

Looks like a flat button of some sort. I can read the guilt but not the rest. I'm not home right now but I believe I found one just like it. Those square nails would indicate that you are on old grounds. Keep researching and hunting that area as something used to be there. HH Ron

Looks like a nice site. If you are finding stuff that big I'm sure there are some nice old coins lurking around waiting for your detector to sweep over them. Interesting buttons.

RPG,
Nice job on the big iron and that "Double Gilt" button. Beauty!

Hey Ron. :hello: Good to hear from you. There was definitely an old house there. I found quite a few flat buttons, all like the one with the gold gilt. The tombac is the only one different. Have a safe trip home. :)

Thanks winslow. I don't know about the coins though. I've covered this spot pretty good now and think I have recovered about all it has to give.

Thanks John. I hope spring comes soon for you. :icon_sunny:

Thanks HCW. I thought it was.

Doug...How's the weather on the east coast. I been watching all the snow falling over there. I hope it missed you. All the gilt buttons from this site cleaned up just like that one. Odd thing is, all the items at this site were anywhere from 2" to 4" deep. The clothes iron was only about 4". :icon_scratch:

Good Luck Guys. :icon_thumright:

Hi RPG :hello:,
I was lucky enough to find a flat iron last year but I didn't want to carry around the field all day, so I put on the side of the field in the hedge row. Do you think I could find it later ;D. I am going back this year and have a really good look ;D. Anyway, well done on the finds and good luck for the rest of the year.

Thanks hammered. Good luck finding your lost iron. Shouldn't be hard. Just dig the first thing that blows your headphones off. :D

OHH! That's a purdy button! I found a big flat button today, but it didn't have the gold on the back like yours. :-\ I heard someone menion the 'S' word for Bama later on this week. Let's hope they're wrong! :D

Congrats on all those finds~ Nana

Not sure how the weather is in NC right now. I'm over in the UK freezing my arse off this week. I worked with a guy today that is a dead match for John Lennon. No pun intended. I'll post a picture when I return.
They are still driving on the wrong side of the road here. ;D
A girl at work gave me some old piece she found in her grandma's garden. It looks like Sir Walter Raleigh (?) on it possibly. I'll post it when I get back.
Cheers,
Sir Doug the Duke of Eatinham

Thanks phantomfinder. It's all in the cleaning. I got a lot of help from members here.

Thanks Nana. Looking forward to seeing that big flat button and all the finds. I don't even want to think about the "S" word. :nono: Now they are saying it's going more to the south. Let's hope so.

Doug, don't let the cold put the damper on a dream trip. You can warm up when you get back. ;D Good luck over there. Looking forward to your post when you get back. :icon_thumright:

Good to hear from you Des. The year has started slow but I have plans for the near future.

Thanks Kanyontreasures. :)

The one on the right does look tombac. I love how you dug up the iron too. There can be some pretty significant history in the iron finds. Looks like a good days hunt 8)
