Was out with Frank yesterday and almost walked into this beautiful snake sunning itself due to it being so unusually warm temps yesterday, roughly 70*

Was easily 5' long. At this point I'm trying to ID it but it's either a Northern Black Racer or Eastern Ratsnake.

Looking for the snake experts to chime in.

Nice it startled you
pictures B

I'd say a Black Rat snake if it was in my yard.
Water snakes will be defensive in nature.
Black Rat will just go on their way.

This one was in the laneway a month ago.

That's just.....🤭🤬

Here I have a wife that pulls 4'&5' Black Rat snakes from the barn.

Poor little snakes get a little pet as they slither by the doorsteps.

You need to try to educate your Mrs on the benefits of a snakes.

Now this a snake, and has lived many years.

My boot size 13.
This beautiful Black Rat was sunning along the road.

Took a little gentle nudging to get it moving.

We are on the northern part of where they can live.
So I have a few BR nesting boxes on the property.

More is better.

I don't kill Snakes just to be clear, but some people just can't be reached :dontknow: 🤣

I see snakes regularly at work....I guess it's a perk of working outdoors.
We have a few different kinds of snakes around here but the big ones are rare. A few garter snakes grow up to be intimidating although they are harmless.
This guy was over a meter in length, not the biggest I've seen but still a contender!
