Every since I heard about the new EXP SE Pro with the new 11" DD coil I have wondered if will work with my EXP II. So I went to the horses mouth, in this case Minelab. The answer is:
YES, it will work with my EXP II. It will be lighter, balancing my unit better and will work better than the original coil. Minelab has made the coil and they have been distributed to dealers. They suggest if I want one I should call a Minelab dealer and get one there list as most dealers allready have waiting list. As much as I want the best, I will wait for a review or two to pop up before shelling out the bucks. I know it cannot be cheap.

I have one I paid a good price for I think they sell for $199.00 new. I am NOT that impressed with it. It is lighter than the stock coil and covers slightly more area and I think it is a decent coil. I do NOT however think it is as great as everyone says.

My finds really haven't improved much. I will say that I find a few more very small items with it so I can say that that is a plus. But to be fair most of the sites I hunt are trashy and I find the coil is too big to use. I rely on my smaller coil a LOT.

Just when I was about to get one, the stock market fell, my wife's hour were cut from 40 to 35 a week and Minelab came out with the E Traq. Life is not fair. Needless to say I am not buying anything for a while. I will keep an ear open for any reports. I did see a couple of SE Pros and E Traqs in action in Sept. They all seemed to do well. The one E Traq user had a few exceptional finds. I was impressed as he did not have it long, 3-4 weeks.

I think my problem with the Pro coil is lack of time using it. I haven't been to a NEW good site with it and the old sites I have gone back and revisited with it produced nothing earth-shattering.

I am not bad-mouthing the coil I just don't think it is all that everyone says it is so far for me.

Here is my number one reason for not buying it YET..............

Because I will wait for a smaller 8" or less version of it to be produced. It should happen.

If this coil is as good as they say it is at separating trash.........then it is a shame they started out with such a big coil. I could see an 8" or less coil using the same design and technology as being killer for trash. So I shall wait. Depth is not an issue here. Silver past 8" is almost unheard of. Trash however is. And if I buy the coil now and they come out with a smaller version a few months later, I will be kicking myself all over the ass.
