Error?

I found this in my change. It appears to have extra metal attached at about 11 o’clock and lines leading all the way down to the bottom where other metal broke off is this an error? Is it worth saving? I’m new to this so you opinions are valued.

Hi Trailshot, welcome to TNet! From your pics, it looks like this was just scraped, gouged, or crunched, so what looks like extra metal is just displaced. Good luck, and Happy Hunting!

I would think if it was a gouge the R in LIBERTY and a good portion of the back of Lincoln's head would be obliterated.
No expert, but that doesn't look like post-mint damage to me.

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard Trailshot! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - I moved ya from TODAY'S FINDS! over to COINS for more exposure.

3rd - I agree with laralucine - it looks like it may have been scraped, gouged or possibly crunched.

I'm not able to really tell without clear closeups.
Plated Lincolns will not have lamination issues because of the way they are made. They can have planchet defects before being plated or strike though errors while being minted.
Your images seem to rule out a strike through and because some of it looks to be on the rim I'm leaning towards Post Mint damage as well.

Clear closeup images and both sides of the coin would help.

I am on the fence with this coin. Better close-up pics are definitely needed and a side view of the rims where the possible extra metal seems to terminate or extend at or beyond the rim. Try taking pics in somewhat shaded natural light with no flash.

That is just some kind of foreign material stuck on the coin. Definitely not something from the minting process.

Looks like some dried up grass or straw stuck to metal. Not PMD.

I’m new to this, All I can say is that both color and metal consistencies are the same. It does not seem tampered with after the fact, and would seem to serve no purpose at all to be added by a person later

No one intentionally added it to the coin. It got something sticky on it and then a piece of vegetation stuck to it. There's no doubt that's what it is. The last pics are very clear.
