Error Quarter - Worth it or not?
First of all, I am sorry if my message offended anyone. Greg, I've read your posts on here for a little over a year now and I respect your opinions very much. I did not mean to come across as sounding so head strong but I still stand by my opinion. It still looks fake to me, I've reviewed and reviewed and compared it to many quarters of the same year and the angles still don't seem to match up to me. Even the angle of the chin seems to be too obtuse in comparison to the more acute angles used on the actual chin. I have no wish to preach to anyone, I guess the only truth I have is that I truthfully believe it isn't real but I am not a licensed expert. If it's real then fantastic, if it's not, I won't even say I told you so because that's not the kind of person I am.
First, thank you very much for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Thank you as well for your excellent post above, well written and I understand your views better now. :icon_thumright:

Here's where I'm coming from..... (and this wasn't the first time, lol)....I enjoy the Coins forum very much because you get to see a lot of odd stuff and people generally have a lot of good questions and as a 35 year avid collector, I'm 43 now, started when I was 8. :help:, lol, I enjoy trying to answer people's questions or try to grade a coin.

There are a number of people who visit the Coins forum who are in that leaning stage, soaking up everything they can read, so my one and only pet peeve is when an erroneous opinion is given, seemingly as the final word, and these people will, at least on this particular topic, be mis-informed about the topic as they move along in their collecting lives......ya know?......

I am, by no means, an expert either. I have learned a great deal on this forum (as well as Today's Finds, I'm also an avid detectorist) and both forums have allowed me to able to ponder over questions and render opinions, which I enjoy, so my apologies for getting edgy in my post. I thoroughly enjoy the great hobby of numismatics (both dug and purchased) and I really just want new collectors to receive as much good and correct information as they can.

Guess I never answered the OP's question.....$100 is too much to pay for a 100% genuine 10-15% off-center U.S. minted quarter. :laughing7:

HH all!

Greg

How about you Jasper? Does it look real to you? You have more years experience than I have total so I'd really be interested in what you have to say about it.

Its just as real as this 2000 LMC MS-64-65 about 30 % off center. An off center occurs when the collar that retains the planchet does not function properly for one reason or another allowing the planchet to move within the chamber and being struck with some of the devices missing.Hence off center.
Some people do not believe this could be an actual error but wether you do or not.Do your homework and research research and then research some more until you fill confident to make a purchase or not to purchase a error coin.there are only a set number of ways an error can occur such as clipped planchets.Lamination issues, offcenter ,broadstike, cud,Brockage, etc, etc. Whats the diff between Hub doubling and machine doubling. One is worth alot of money such as the 55 LWC Double Die and one is worthless. What you have to remember is there are an infinite number of ways to damage or alter a coin after it leaves the mint PMD Post Mint Damage and knowing how to tell the diff.
I bought a 2008-D off center Lincoln cent about 3 months ago off ebay for $15 the seller had it listed incorrectly as a misprint so I was the only bidder. What the seller did not know was this was the last year of the Lincoln Memorial cent and a rare date for an off center.I sold it a week later on ebay for $140 Not in an auction but I had it listed as "Buy Now".
