? I got up early with the melting frost this morning for about 3hrs of MD'ing. Learning my new Gerrett GTXa 550 as I go... came up with these finds. I nice condition Enlgish portrait stamped in metal, not sure what is was for or how old it is but it does have that nice green patina color that we all like to see. Any ideas what is was for and how old? She looks like she just walked out of the 1780's or something?

? I got some clad but not much and came up with an 1864 Indain Head Cent, looking past the dirt it's in EF condition, I can even see two complete diamonds on her head dress but no "L" to be seen. This one was about 4 inches deep.
? After awhile the sun was warming nice and went back to the truck to strip down a bit and on the way back up to the house (walking with the detector on of course) I hit a strong quarter signal at 7 inches and came up with what I believe is the English Penny, worn pretty smooth though and I can't make anything on it. I'm posting a pic with it next to the English Penny that I found earlier this year, it's the same size and thickness but worn down and a little bent. That really got me excited when I unearthed this one. I wonder if it is that, how old it is?

? ?Oh, the house is near the center of the village and off a street from the main drag and is on a corner lot adjacent to a larg parking lot near the school and a church. I'm hoping to get a few hours this afternoon and then again Sunday morning.

Hey, you guys play nice! ;D :D

Well, let's go back to yesterday for a minute...
It was early afternoon and I had my 5yr old daughter with me (she likes babysitting the worms while I'm digging), while minding my own business all of the sudden an older gentleman was standing near me leaning with his arm propped up against the tree I was near. Startled me at first but obveously we all know why he was there :D.
So I said hello and told him that I've come up with a couple Indian Head cents so far! He just nodded and turned away and walked over to the shed to jump on the John Deer and began mowing a lawn that didn't need it! Well after about 6 or so passes he finally came up to me and shut off his tractor. (Now remember, I have already received permission to metal detect the churches property).
He firmly asked "who said you could dig holes in the yard?" Oh believe me, I was all ready for him!

I politely replaid that "the church has given me permission" and that I was being careful with what I was going and filling my holes back up the best I can. "WHO'D YOU SPEAK TO?" was his next question. So I told him the name who is a board member of the church and a old friend of my mother and knew me very well. She was the one that owns the 1851 homestead that I dug the Perpetual Calender Coin at. He must have replied with something but he left me alone then. ;) He certainly wasn't going to run me off! ;D
Well this morning, he was back again! I seen him walking around the side yard checking on me and my "holes in the yard". He didn't stay long and left without even saying "Hi" to me, not very nice now was he. At least I said hello to him when I first saw him. Oh well, such is life. He wants to be an Old Fart, fine! But I got permission! :D Nanna nanna boo boo!

Okay, here's some new pics. I finished off yesterday with my 1st liberty head nickel dated 1900, added a couple more wheaties with it plus more Indian Head cents and one super nice 1861 civil war token.
This morning I didn't have as much time to spend but still I ended up with more wheat and a nice Merc. Finally... I found a bit of silver!

My Indians are:
1863 copper-nickel VG cond.
1864 bronze, full liberty with 3 1/2 diamonds still showing, Nice!
1891 full liberty

1861 Civil War Token XF cond.

1900 Liberty Nickel, looks good but extremely dirt soaked for about 80 years, hard to clean up.

Wheaties:
1910
1918
1920
1925
1941-D (2)
1944

1944 Merc Dime, VF cond.

With help from some family, we came up with what the English Portrait is from, looks like it might be the backing to a hair brush set, this would have been on the back of the hand held mirror. We think anyways. ::)

And finally, another beautiful sunrise. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Actually, the token came up reverse side first and I seen the shield and had a good idea right away as o what it was. I'm just amazed at how good the condition still is, not correded at all.

Nice finds, Those english pennies have a great dark green patina, I found one it's a 1875. Congrats, Tsgman in Missouri.

Nice, I love the old brooch looking thing. I have the same coin. Read in the 50's on the dfx as big as they are. Yours looks like it cleaned up nicely. I can't recall the date but up until the 1850's I think british money was accepted here. Probably a pocket peice lost.

WOW, congrats on finding those old, old coins. Your so lucky, or so skillful.... ;) ;D
