? I got up early with the melting frost this morning for about 3hrs of MD'ing. Learning my new Gerrett GTXa 550 as I go... came up with these finds. I nice condition Enlgish portrait stamped in metal, not sure what is was for or how old it is but it does have that nice green patina color that we all like to see. Any ideas what is was for and how old? She looks like she just walked out of the 1780's or something?

? I got some clad but not much and came up with an 1864 Indain Head Cent, looking past the dirt it's in EF condition, I can even see two complete diamonds on her head dress but no "L" to be seen. This one was about 4 inches deep.
? After awhile the sun was warming nice and went back to the truck to strip down a bit and on the way back up to the house (walking with the detector on of course) I hit a strong quarter signal at 7 inches and came up with what I believe is the English Penny, worn pretty smooth though and I can't make anything on it. I'm posting a pic with it next to the English Penny that I found earlier this year, it's the same size and thickness but worn down and a little bent. That really got me excited when I unearthed this one. I wonder if it is that, how old it is?

? ?Oh, the house is near the center of the village and off a street from the main drag and is on a corner lot adjacent to a larg parking lot near the school and a church. I'm hoping to get a few hours this afternoon and then again Sunday morning.

Re: Enlish Penny? and 1864 IH

yep thats an english penny alright well done nice,,

Re: Enlish Penny? and 1864 IH

Depending on it's size, it could be a Farthing, 1/2 Penny or Penny from the Mid-late 1800's.

Date on your coin will be just below the line at the bottom of the Reverse, with the denomination at the top of the reverse.

NICE FINDS !!? ?;)

Great finds! I love those Indian Head pennies, and I love finding foreign coins as well, and yours is probably pretty old! WTG!!

tallpaul ....

Could not tell from tha scan that it had been IDed as a Penny, but could tell the reverse of the coin had the seated figure holding a trident ..... JUST as the farthings & half-pennies ALSO had in that era.? ?:-X

Re: Enlish Penny? and 1864 IH

Did I read that wrong? It's the one on the left that I can't identify well enough. It just happens to be the same size and thinkness as the 1863 One Penny to the right of it. I really don't know what it is.

I made it back there this afternoon, can't post pics yet... the wife is taking me out tonight! ;)

I rushed home to get showered and just about out the door now... you'll see pic SUnday afternoon.

Re: Enlish Penny? and 1864 IH

Great finds Chris. Maybe with a little cleaning you will be able to tell what the larger coin is. Congrats...Lance

only the penny has the britania holding the folk, and the head on the other, the half penny has a head one side and a ship the other a galleon, the farthing has a head one side and a bird on the other,

tallpaul .... Hate to burst your bubble, but .... the Farthings with the bird on the reverse AND the 1/2 cent with the ship on the reverse were minted STARTING in 1937 !! ( & have an entirely DIFFERENT Obverse. ) I believe the Coin pictured is from the 1800's. I realize you were only trying to "Help" but, implying I have no clue as to what I am talking about seems a bit lame seeing how I have been buying & selling coins for about 30 years.? ?::)

The point is now moot anyways after being told we were both trying to ID the wrong coin in the scan.
