I found this on the beach today and was curious if anyone had any ideas of what it could be? It is just under 4.5in long and the large round end is about 1.25-1.5in wide. If you guys have any advice for how I can go about getting the crust material off that would be great as well.

This was found less than half a mile from a shipwreck that washed up onto South Ponte Vedra Beach earlier this week which the archaeology team has estimated to be from around the 1700’s and appears to be American made so far.

***I realize this is most likely totally unrelated to the shipwreck lol...but it definitely makes it more interesting to think about for me at least!

Here are a few pics I took of the shipwreck as well.

Other than just a random piece off of a boat, the few possible ideas I had were maybe an old spoon or a part of a knife. I assume it must have been in the water for quite a while for all of that crust to develop but I’m by no means a metal expert and realize that some metals may develop that stuff faster than others.

Electrolysis should clean it up. Be sure to rub it with baking powder afterwards to neutralize it . Hope its something good.
