EDWARD111 SILVER HOARD

Sweet find! Thank you for posting!

As a newbie, I am curious to why those coins look so spotlessly clean?

Silver and gold do not interact with the soil like other metals such as copper and nickel do. As you look around the forum posts you will see occasionally see Roman silver & gold that looks like it was dropped yesterday. One such post is the Roman Gold Intaglio that is on the banner today and can be seen by clicking here: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,374901.html

Welcome to the forum!

:hello:

Hello Clovis welcome to Treasure Net :hello2: thanks for the reply about the Eward111 Silver Hoard, the coins did come out in very clean condition, sometimes they do, especially from sandy soil which is the case in the Hoard, sometimes hammered coins come out black as night, or even brown from iron deposits in the soil :icon_thumleft:

Ahh the good old days, when will they return.:dontknow: Went back to this field many times since finding the hoard, even after a very deep plough and using a GPX3000 no further coins were found.:sadsmiley: Hopefully finds like these will surface once again, but if they don't, I can't grumble.

'tis true what they say about it being a once in a lifetime find...but keep digging! All these yrs later and your find is still getting views. What ever became of the trove? Did the antiquities authorities make you an offer? Where you able to track their movements since you found them?

When you think that a Silver Edward Penny may have been a soldiers monthly wage back in the 1300's ... and there were 4 penny's to a Groat ...... Yes that would have been a huge loss.

Very nice find indeed!
