Dug my oldest coin EVER today!!!! Member of the 1700's club!!!

Well Folks it's been a loooooong time since I have posted anything. We moved from central NC (Raleigh) to the NC mountains (Asheville) last year, so I haven't been out detecting at all until recently. My wife has a meeting in Raleigh this week so I decided to drive back with her and go detect one of my old spots. As a lot of you know, I have been hitting this 160 acre spot for years and have recovered a lot of nice CW relics and much more.
Today was a cold overcast day, but the drizzle stopped early. I was hoping to recover at least one CW bullet or button for old times sake. After firing up and ground balancing the mighty Tesoro Vaquero, I started my search in an area of scrub pines where myself and other buddies have found a lot of asst'd CW period buttons in the past.
Not even 10 minutes into my day I got a signal in an area that I know I have been over and over before. I dug down about 4" through the pinestraw top layer and into the compacted dry soil and I see a silver coin! Now without my glasses, that I had left in the truck, I couldn't tell what it was. :dontknow: I strained to look at it and saw what looked like a Chinese symbol. :dontknow: I pulled out my loupe to get a better l@@k and boy was I surprised!!!! Right then I knew it was Spanish silver. After a closer l@@k I see a very clear date of "1775" staring back at me! :occasion18: I about soiled myself, as this is the oldest coin I have EVER dug. After contacting a few friends I found out it was a 1 real coin. I don't know if I will ever find a coin older than that, but I am happy to have finally broken in to the 1700's! I plan on putting it into a display case and mounting it to my bedroom ceiling to look at. :tongue3:

Sorry for the horrible photos, but all I have with me to take photos with is my Blackberry.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Doug,
Was that at the same site I found the 1/2 reale? That coin is sooo much nicer than the one I found. Just updated my profile/password, etc. It's been a long time since posting here! That is the kind of find that will rejuvenate the detecting desire.

Bob

Hey Bob,
Glad to hear from you Buddy. No, this place was just down the road from where you dug yours. I still remember the day you got yours in that horse pasture. I was so happy for you since you made that long trip to come detect with me. I miss the posts from the Bob & Nate Ohio team. I hope you are all doing great.
If you guys ever come down to Asheville let us know. :icon_thumleft:

THANKS FOR THE GREAT REPLIES EVERYONE. This has got me pumped up to get out more. :icon_thumright:

OMG MM! What a way to get back into the swing! I saw my email and thought this HAD to be a good one. YUP! I was right. lol It's a good one! Does this mean the handy dandy create-a-masterpiece shop is close till further notice now? :tongue3:
Many congrats on that old silver!
:hello2:
Nana

Thanks Nana. This was the first place I took you all too. The area of small pines where we all started out at. How we missed it I'll never know. :dontknow:
As far as the workshop, I may have to give that up for a bit too. The wife wants me to paint a few rooms and put up a dog fence outdoors. :BangHead:
The fun never ends.
Congrats again on those lead knuckles. Why they are not up there on the BANNER train I don't know?

Nice find and a great club to belong to! Now, about that membership to the 1600s club...

Way to go Doug! Glad to see you're still on the prowl with your detector. You've recovered a real treasure there. I've been lucky enough to find two pieces of spanish silver, but both were worn nearly smooth. Hope you can find some nice places to hunt in your new mountain home.
Steve

Dug,

There are lots of great finds to be made in the Mountains. I'm sure you'll do well there. Main thing is to get out and dig more.

Killer find for sure, and congrats on the 1700s barrier. It WILL be less long before you break it again. Great coin, and have fun staring at that beauty every day for a month. I know I did when I dug my first.

Cheers,

Buck

Dang, that's impressive! Congrats and HH!

Fantastic hit MM!! I would love to score one of those. A buddy of mine dug one Saturday about 30 miles from Goldsboro. I really need to get into some colonial stuff. A bit harder to find here .

Awesome find! I never get tired of digging Spanish silvers. I still haven't graduated to anything above 1/2R!

Congrats MM - Very nice coin - Not very many people get into the 1700 club - WTG

Couldnt come to a more deserving person!
Man,its been a long time since I have dug some Span Silver!!Seems to go in streaks with me

Congrats on breaking into the 1700s. I remember the first time I did that, and it was a surprise find too. Mine was a mid-1700s half reale. Hopefully they'll come with more regularity now, and maybe you can push it into the 1600s in the near future. Nice find!!

very nice find MM,, wish you had found it in Ashville though,, since that is close to my neck of the woods and would give me some incentive,,,lol
me any my son are pretty new to MD and just this weekend found our first CW relic , so me and him are both stoked .
it also really warms my heart to see all the posters that have come back to post for you..
again Gratz.

Congrats on the beautiful silver coin. Glad to see you back on TN.
