Possible Key Date Draped Bust LC and an Eagle cuff Button

Hunted a couple of foundations that we've hunted in the past with my buddy FatTony315 today. Tried to slow my hunting way down and listen for some signals that we may have left behind or imperfect, jumpy type signals that we may have chosen not to dig. Started off with one of those jumpy signals that only gave a high chirp maybe one out of every four times I passed the coil over the target. Turned up a target that I thought might have been a button but it was so small I just put in in my pouch and moved on. After cleaning it off at home it turned out to be a nice Navy Eagle cuff 2 piece button. Followed that up with a nice flat button.

Picked up a few odds and ends including a few spoons and a pewter spoon handle. Then I started to venture further away from the foundation and got a slightly imperfect signal that was hitting a a few different numbers on my e-trac. (10-44, 11-45, and a few sweeps of the coil gave iron signal hits 35-45....but there was a nice high tone pretty consistently so I knew it might be something good. At about 6-7 inches deep I saw a copper disc pop out of the side of the hole.

After brushing it off a little I can see that it has a bunch of detail left but it has that flaky kind of look that makes me think it won't do well in peroxide. I think I'm gonna leave it mostly like it is. Maybe just a bit more toothpicking. Looks like an 1804.

Here's a compilation picture of today's finds.

Great finds And good call on no peroxide. After I ruined a few, I don't just bathe them automatically lol.

If it's an 1804 you have yourself a rare find. I found an 1804 over the summer that was quite toasted. Fortunately the best part of the coin was the date.

Hey that's a beauty bud. That should clean up and be a beauty. That's a valuable coin and could be very valuable depending how well it cleans up. A couple grand minimum by the looks. Keep us posted on the clean up. That's a GREAT find

Wow, she is very sweet. Great finds.

Every time I look at it I see 1804. But I'm still not sure. The 4 is very weak and the die doesn't line up like it says it should in the red book. It says the "0" in the date should be in line with the "O" in the word "Of" on the reverse. When I flip the coin over the "0" in the date seems to be directly on top of the second "T" in the word "States". Any ideas from the colonial coin experts on TNET? Also... any ideas as to the era of the cuff button?

Looks similar to my one and only military button
I'll check my book.

Nice finds! Wish I could find those really old LC's out here in the Midwest.............:dontknow:

Are there 13 stars? And can you see a back mark bud?
I believe it's pre civil war due to the vertical anchor.

Maybe just a bit more "thumb rib"
Great coin, What a day you had, congrats...

I believe in 1852 the anchor was changed to a horizontal design

Yes Abe, there are definitely 13 stars. Can't make out the backmark yet. Looks like there is a piece of leather left in the shank. I'll clean it up and take a look at it tomorrow. I'll get a better picture of the front also. stand by.

Here's the front. 13 stars.

Hopefully out good friend CannonBallGuy will grace us with his wisdom. He id'd mine and narrowed down the years to just a few. He's the best

Super cool, Congrats!

For the record Abe, that button that you found is in immaculate condition. The remaining gilt is amazing.
Thanks bud yeah I was pretty psyched that my one and only looks like that. I found it in an d dump site that is about 40 seconds from my house. I've been so busy hunting colonial sites that I've never been back. This is how it looked fresh out of the hole
