The frosty mornings are now here, but I've still been able to gather a little to eat out of the garden. I don't think I'm all that great of gardening individual, but it does keep me engaged in something now that I've been put to pasture. The recent Bok Choy and Cilantro just grew on they're own from seeds and I added it and a few carrots to a stir-fry last Sunday. Tomatoes are definitely done now that the freezing has arrived. One good thing is the grasshoppers can't destroy what's still hanging on. Sure hope this winter is less favorable to the survival of those rascals next spring. I definitely hope to have those mesh covers ready and on hand for the next go at this gardening hobby I'm trying to prefect.

Thanks Bill, As of this morning I'd say the foraging is now pretty much over. The carrots in the ground should still be alright I'm thinking. This here is the first covering of snow for 2024 and hopefully there's more to come throughout the next few months.

No snow on the ground here yet, but we have been having frosty nights and mornings. The two small tomato plants I have froze and I'm not too warm myself! :dontknow:

Pretty much a steady snow flurry here most the day. It's like a switch was flipped off on autumn and winter was flipped on.
 

billb is the go-to for that endeavor. I'll be hitting him up when I get more serious on moving forward with that next step.
Well my first attempt went decent. I made beef stew. Large 1-1/2” chunks of chuck steak, potatoes, onions, carrots, garlic, couple basil leaves.

Lesson I learned:
Clean off a large clean preparation area. Allow time to cleanup several times.
Don’t overfill the jars or the pot.
Use a pressure canner.
Read the directions and carefully inspect the pot. If in doubt..buy new.
Don’t get carried away with garlic or onion (it goes a long ways).

Lean towards the light side on seasoning. It’s easy to add seasoning when you reheat.

Mine was the best stew I’ve ever had.
However, I had heartburn and was burping up seasonings for hours.

Build yourself a cold room or store in basement.

If something doesn’t seal or you question your process..just put it in the fridge and eat it for dinner soon.

Write the date on the lid.

I’m going to try again this winter, hopefully with some elk meat.
