Don't Laugh too hard but....

Sulfides in natural gold not the same as refined gold. Well, I would like to know how the competition hunt goes. Like I said I know dogs can smell freshly dug soil.

I admit your video looks very interesting. I would try him out in a city park. If he finds gold there I would become a believer. Right now I just wonder if there are some other clues the dog is going on. Possible reading your body language. Recall some guy had a horse that could do arithmetic. He would scratch his hoof on the ground and count out the number. It turned out the owner’s body language was keying the horse when to stop the scratching at the correct answer. Dogs can detect body language like crazy. Recall the picture/painting of several dogs dressed up and sitting at a poker table. The joke was they could read a tell.

yes, that is exactly what I thought. Am I unintentionally signaling the dog where they object is. So, I started having someone else hide objects and we have been doing some free reign searches. So, the dog is on its own doing the scent detection.

I travel during the week, so I can only train on weekends. But the wife does maintenance training, hiding stuff around the house for him to find. Weekends, I do outside training. Where she hides objects in the yard.

But even that, both I and the dog know there is something in the area, so he is hyped up to find it. What happens after 1/2 hour or 45 minutes, and he hasn't found anything. Does he give up, lay down and take a nap? :dontknow:

The competition should tell me that. objects somewhere on 15-20 acres. we don't know anything about where they might be placed. I won't have touched any of the objects. They will run for 4 hours then break for lunch. Then detect again after lunch. If he is able to get one or two of the objects on a "blind" search like this, I'll be happy.

I hope the best for you. I still have concerns the dog will find the freshly dug ground. I guess you will know if you dig and find some other objects besides gold. I watched your dog sniff the objects and that to me is a good sign, but I really would like to see what happens in a city park. Best of luck in your hunt!

When I practice locations with a frequency generator and L-rods I close my eyes and spin around a few times, toss the target, then spin around a few mire times. That way I don’t know where the target is. But it wound be difficult to keep your scent off the target. Maybe have something like one of those ball throwers they use for dogs so you don’t touch it. Still there will be some scent. But you can certainly mix up your test targets so you don’t know which is a target or empty can. Better yet put something else in the empty cans like nuts and bolts or something the same weight so you don’t catch a clue.

This weekend, I can have him search our park. But we are a small town, not sure if anything is there. We had three thousand people in the county when I moved there in 2019.
But yes, I can try that ball thrower idea.

These are some open-air videos from Sunday, objects place in the yard by the wife. just put on the ground. I didn't know where they were.

and

here he is at a dog park picking up the scent of gold in the air.
he located it then peed on it.

The first two videos say "unavailable"

Today the wife started putting stuff an inch or two under ground.

He started digging until he exposed it.
I think it's a Kenndy half or morgan silver dollar.
Then he sat stating he located it.

Now he gets his treat.

I noticed the Pitbull's job is "treats quality control"
:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:
You're exactly right.
He checks the treats for freshness and quality.
He also makes sure we schedule plenty of training secessions throughout the day.
He is basically the training manager.

He's my ole man, 13 years old now. Would love for him to scent detect, but he can't walk for long periods. So, he just supervises the training for the youngsters.
