don't have a clue-need help

A friend of mine found this last week and asked if I know what it is.I said that I didn't but I definitely know where to find out-right here on TN.This thing is about 4 inches long.It has solder spots on the inside hole like something else was there.I don't know how old the site is where he found it.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I think Rasputin had it right the first time as it looks like an escutcheon lock plate for a trunk. Interesting find, Breezie

Could well be, Breezie, but I am still trying to figure out the purpose of this screw hole in that application .. I keep stalling on that.

Folks this is a clock pendulum. That’s why it has the hole in the top, to suspend it. Cheers. Similar to this one.
