That's a super nice coin, looks like the day it was minted.......:occasion14:

This Spanish equivalent of a quarter dollar was struck at the Segovia mint 1716-29 during the latter part of the reign of king Philip V.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 297.

Thanks!

any idea of value??

Why would BVI hunter make this up? Do you not know the history of the islands where he is from? I believe him. So far I have no reason to doubt him.

Thanks WD!!

ignore the ramblings of SADS, he has too much coral in his ears, and besides, we are just two Brits abroad and he likes to yank my chain - something to do with me having more stripes on my uniform than him..........:laughing7:

Right BVI,

Now you dun it, my tiger shark arrived today my first MD, I collect it tomorrow ( bloody post office is miles away) then I am going to go out and find a bunch of stuff in a valiant effort to put you in the shade. I will post the first thing I find and don't you dare laugh......

Ha!! enjoy it - and don't forget ; you don't hold the coil like a steering wheel to operate it.......:laughing7:

Thanks!

any idea of value??

Not sure but in that condition......."uncirculated" and no wire brush type cleaning.......several hundred dollars I'm sure.
The coral left on it just adds to the price at this point....JMO

Just look at it...it's almost 300 hundred years old..it's very well struck...it's pristine........you da man.....

Hello all, This thread MADE me register! I have been lurking for a while.
BVI... great find! Best of luck to you and keep your powder dry, you may need it.

thanks!!!

Captain,

If and when you can identify the ship that the coins came from, will likely have a significant effect on the value of the coins! Once the shipwreck is identified, if that is your goal, and the coins deemed to have come from that shipwreck, then the coin's values could skyrocket or show no increase whatsoever, depending upon the name of the ship, it's Country of origin and when it went down. With these types of coins (shipwreck coins), provenance and history are everything when it comes to value!

Great finds - beautiful coins, but at 24 pages this is a booklet! I will have to read the rest in the evening when I have more time. Nuggy

So....are the "exchanges" between BVI and SADS what are known as "slagging" each other "off"? Just need to get the terminology correct "mates"!

Correct Mate! (no "s")

ee's actually not a bad geezer, though he does me 'ed in! I mean, love a duck gov'nor!

the fact that he's plod, don't worry me none - in fact I know he wont be grassin' to no one about the gear I found!

being a decent bloke, he'll probably get the first round of sherberts in when I go to his drum for a chin wag!! and we'll probably start early doors!
and I know if he's slagging me, he's only having a giraffe!

Blimey - I went all "Mary Poppins" mode there.....!!!!!

Here we go again,

BVI, as Del Boy would say you're a Palestine ( I think he meant Philistine, but you get the drift) no wonder you haven't found anything decent since Monday you are too busy prattling on about Giraffes and Ducks what are you a treasure hunter or a zookeeper, make your mind up.dde0a
Seriously, nice turn of phrase with the Cockney rhyming slang, made me quite nostalgic even though I am from the home of the Morgan motor car and the Queen drinks our water.

Don't you mean Peckham Spring Water????? Plonker! :laughing7:

That is absolutely awesome!!
The finds or the back and forth between the "Limeys"?

Hard for us "former colonists" no to be amused! lol
