Don't laugh, that will work once you get it stabilized. The carbolic acid in the Coke will help dissolve the encrustation.

That's the funniest sh#}{%t I ever heard. BVI, don't take nuttin else from these guys cracking on you. Lmao! One day you'll be writing a book and guess who's first in line for that autograph. Keep em coming, still lmao!!!

Thanks!

and this will work for sea / salt encrusted coins?

do I use fresh lemon juice/ and do I change it out for fresh so often or leave it?

where in the UK are you?
The bottle Lemon juice works just fine, drop a coin in (one at a time) give it a 24hr soak, and then work at the crud with a cotton bud, change the juice every day. For the coins that are stuck together, boiling them will separate them.

I from North Yorkshire in the UK :icon_thumright:

Captain,

The first Cardinal Rule for conservation of shipwreck finds, is to quickly submerse them in fresh water and change the fresh water every day or so! This is to leach out the salt from the encrustations and stabilize the items from further damage. Some folks place the items in the toliet tank (not the bowl) because the fresh water gets replaced several or more times a day.

Just watch out for that pesky little Tidy-D-Bowl man! He has a little boat and may pirate your finds! Caution!

Hey BVI,

I hope you enjoy these photos of the sewer pipe wreck 500 yrds from my house. I have not found any coins yet but man alive there are loads of sewer pipes as it was on its way to Haiti loaded down, so you are not the only person on this site finding sewer pipes, so there.

BVI - threads like this are what keep me coming back to this site. Thanks for posting so many reports, I am living out my inner Indiana Jones fantasy through you and your amazing finds! :)

That's a super nice coin, looks like the day it was minted.......:occasion14:

This Spanish equivalent of a quarter dollar was struck at the Segovia mint 1716-29 during the latter part of the reign of king Philip V.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 297.

Warehouse,

You appear like a nice person so I am going to cut you some slack but please, please remember not to encourage either huntsman ( spends all his time hunting for socks in his underwear drawer) or BVI (who puts his coins in his buddy's aquarium to grow coral on them)

If you encourage them they then think they are comedians and we all suffer, so join me and challenge them to find more stuff and do less comedy..

Where's the DONT like button on this F***** site??? :laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:
