Do you go to the VA ?

Me and my dad both tried to claim it they told us both they didn't do disability for it anymore, but constant ringing in the ears was. Ill have to reapply if they are doing sc on it
If you are talking about hearing loss, they will service connect it. You need to have an MOS that is rated as high for hearing loss. Tinnitus is 10% period, one ear or both.

I was a diesel mechanic and there were a few days that even with issues hearing protection it was bad

Went to the VA yesterday. Walked in healthy walked out with some major issues. First time there and was treated very well. Spent over an hour with my Primary Care Doctor. Had Xrays and waited just a couple of minutes. Went to the Pharmacy and only had to wait for about 10 minutes. I could not believe how well I was treated. Then I noticed the address on my medication. It had my name and my address was Headquarter U.S. Army. I had them remove it, now I wonder if I will still be treated the same since my address no longer read Headquarters U.S. Army.

Two tours in Vietnam and Cambodia. I didn't know anything about VA healthcare, was paying $850 a month for health insurance.

I went to a new barber who was talking all about the VA. I mentioned my veterans status. He told me to find a VA counselor, and I did. The counselor filed the papers for me and within a month I was accepted in. Since no purple heart, I do have to pay a co-pay of at most $50 for outpatient care, and $8 for a prescription.

Both my brother and cousin, and a co-worker, went straight to the VA hospital and applied. Took my brother and cousin 6 months of fighting to be approved. My co-worker gave up.

So, for any of you who have yet to apply, find and go to a counselor first!

And, now the VA is all over and into me :(

And it is absolutely far better than the treatment I did not enjoy with the doctor's merry-go-round I experienced with "commercial" medicine.

You will not regret it period.

Good luck all, I hope this helps.

Des Moines Iowa. I have a really hard time of hearing alot of the time with my hearing aids. They won't compensate for it. I'm an H3. I have 3 years left till I can retire.

Your lucky to avoid the merry go round. I have the complete opposite experience with the San Francisco system of the va

I served stateside, 1964-66. No duty injuries. When I retired and moved to McAllen, an old neighbor, WWII vet, told me I should sign up for VA, that in Texas they treat vets real well. It just sounded wrong to me that I would get medical care with no service related issues, and no combat. But, he insisted that I could. I am still not sure about it.

Well, I don't normally go to the doctor. Here in Mexico my best friend is a doctor, and I loaned him money to build his clinic and he has never paid me back. So, I do get free meds. But, usually I tell him what I need, and it isn't much. I think I have only asked him for help once, a few years ago, when I forgot what ant bites look like. He didn't know either, but gave me some stuff for the pain.

No prescriptions, except Androgel which doesn't need one. With Atkins, my b.p. runs 113 or lower. Feel great at 71. And, I do have the Medicare, but so far have never used it.

Service connection for hearing loss is only given iF your job in the military was around loud noises.
I worked in the engine room of ships.
Plus it need to be bad enough that you need hearing aids.

Tinnitus that i was approved for only needs working in a loud environment in the military.

Being approved for Tinnitus means i no longer pay copay and get travel.

Plus the big thing now is you don't have to sigh up for Obamacare if you are service connected.

Since i am disabled and live in calif under Obamacare i would be under the California's new health insurance exchange, and be enrolled in Medi-Cal
if someone thinks the VA is bad Medi-Cal is even worse and just finding a doctor that will take Medi-Cal is a nightmare.

By going to the VA i get doctors from UCLA that staff the VA hospital i go to and many are very good doctors.
In 2006 i had a heart attack in the VA hospital parking lot.
I got a 5 way bypass by a top professor from UCLA and 7 days after the bypass surgery i drove my self home 160 miles away.

I have only been using the VA Healthcare system now since 2010. I have nothing but great things to say about their health care of me. In fact, they saved my life from cancer when they found it after I first started going to them. They immediately scheduled me for the needed surgery and treated both my wife and me great. The follow up cancer treatment was great too. They've given me hearing aids when they realized my hearing loss was so bad after testing and they have also found that I have two brain aneurysms and two aortic aneurysms, and they never miss my periodic checkup CT Scan scheduling for them either. They got my BP controlled for me and my medications are sent to me within a few days of my calling in for refills. The North Texas VA Healthcare System is one of the finest healthcare systems in the country, in my opinion. Like at other VA locations, they have a contract with an outside medical facility, in this case, the University of Texas Medical Center in Dallas and their doctors provide the specialities such as neurosurgery, vascular surgery and others. My primary care clinic is about 25 miles away from my home and they take care of everything for me, just as a GP doc would in a civilian clinic, immediate medications included, like antibiotics, which are filled at a local pharmacy and billed to the VA. All other meds are put into the system and sent to me within 5 days. I can't say enough good things about their healthcare system and how well I have been treated by the VA to date.

Critical Recovery, sir, can I borrow your dog to take to my VA clinic, I KNOW he would receive better care then me. I walked in with a hernia and was told to use my
company insurance!

I've been out of the VA hospital for two weeks now, Laproscopic Right Hand Hemicolonectomy, two days in intensive care, one day in a room, and released home. I'd heard they had a nursing shortage, so my fear was that I'd be in pain late at night and no one responding. Instead my problem was minor, inability to sleep more than a half hour at a time due to all the care I received around the clock. There were over 30 medical students, nurses, doctors, surgeons, all checking up on me essentially continuously. This was at the Salem Virginia VA Medical Center.

I have NOTHING but praise for the care I received. I do not believe I would have received even remotely this level of care at a commercial hospital

80% service connected. VA is my primary medical care. Very pleased with them, NOW, but wasn't many years ago. A lot of changes were made in the 90's.

When I first signed up for VA care, I absolutely had my reservations. My first care center was in Detroit. I rode by, took a look, and decided I wasn't going there! Then my job ended up there and I moved near my home in Virginia and transferred to Durham. Durham was great, but Salem was closer. I'd heard too many negative stories about Salem. But I was working with a fellow vet who had not signed up, so I took him there to get him on the roll, and transferred there myself.

Years and years of bad press has now been proven wrong in my case - though I do imagine there are still some pretty bad medical centers out there.

I did not know about using the VA until after my 3rd deployment. Since I am a Purple Heart recipient, I do not have a co-pay but I have nothing but praise for the VA. Since I started using them 6 years ago, I have only run into 2 bad experiences. One was a rude doctor and the other was a 5 hour wait past my appointment time for an MRI. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I think the experience vastly differs hospital to hospital and doctor to doctor. My first doctor didn't care about anything but her paycheck it seemed. And she is still convinced my shoulder pain is directly the result or my posture and not the bone spurs that a shoulder specialist determined was the problem. I've noticed with family members as soon as they moved they were immediately happy with the va as they changed hospitals into a different quality of care.

got one for you guys, took a severans pakage when i separated, had a service connected disability, received a 10 percent from the va. then they decided to keep my monthly check which was about $100 until i pay my severans money back. to top it off they are collecting all of it including the 10000 i paid in taxes. just doesnt seem right. double dipping is what it is and ive had a thorn in my side every since i separated. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! during my time we won the cold war and the first desert storm. out of high school they asked me to volunteer so i did. then they downsize and asked me to volunteer to separate so i did and that was the thank you.

My nephew just got out after 8 years active duty in the Army that included two tours in Afghanistan, one in Iraq and two purple hearts. I told him to go to our county VA assistance office to register for VA Healthcare. He did and complete registration and being uploaded into the VA Healthcare system so he can get complete treatment by the VA anywhere takes two weeks. They told him that if he had an issue during that first two weeks, he could still get treated by the VA but he would have to go to the Dallas VA hospital emergency room directly for treatment, rather than to his local outpatient clinic as he will be able to, after that first two weeks is up. They treated him great and because he has a purple heart (actually two) he never will have a co-pay, no matter what his income is, the rest of his life.

I go in for my annual cat scans of my head to check on those two brain aneurysms later this month and the VA never misses scheduling in my semi annual or annual follow up appointments for those cat scans or my other annual cat scan follow up appointments. They really are an exceptionally fine healthcare provider and I am completely satisfied with all the care I get there.
