Do You Do The Majority Of Your Hunts Alone Or With Friends????

I thank God for this hobby. In it I finely found something my wife likes to do. She won't swing coil yet, I do that but she walks along, we talk, we both dig targets, I bag the trash, in my pouch, she pockets the coins. She dose give them to me to clean (we have not found anything old, yet.) I hope we have as much fun this year as we did last. My wife goes out about 75% of the time.
Sam Colt 100%. residue (habit) from an old past time.

What a thrill for both of us when we found our first spill 6 pennies and a month later wen we found 11 in one hole.

It is hard for me to explain to my wife how I can spend hours digging holes in the ground and, most of the time,
coming home with a hand full of pull tabs and pennies.
It is only those of you out there who have the fisherman's mentality. You know, that zone you get into waiting for hours anticipating that big fish striking your bait. It is with that same anticipation you spend hours doing deep knee bends, digging in dirt, swatting mosquitos, and looking over your shoulder for anyone coming up on your six o'clock.
I to like the freedom of being out on my own and calling my own shots as to how long I stay out and which location I hunt.
Too all of you who love this feeling, I salute you!

My favorite response is "It's cheaper than a shrink."

I'd say 75% of my hunts are with friends............personally, I think it's more fun to hunt with friends. Hunting with good people is more than metal detecting. It's friendships and sharing the excitiment of the hobby. I love to see the finds the people I hunt with make..........their excitment is mine.

Most of the time I hunt by myself only because everyone else thinks the have a hot spot and doesn't want to share the glory which usually is not the case, I myself would rather be with somebody even if I found a hot spot.....even if I didn't find anything and the person that is with me did, it's better to be there when something good is found than to not be there at all.

I prefer to hunt alone unless my son comes to visit and we can go out together. He's just starting out and I've got him using my Bandido II.....no ID except learning the detector's "speak". That's how I learned. My machine is the DeLeon. The ID screen helps me to decide whether or not to dig. My ability to do those deep kneebends has come up short in the last year or two. :laughing7: Now, I have to limit them to those "most probably good" targets.

I hunt alone, and have for the past 20 years or so. There are occasional exceptions, but I do better when hunting alone. I prefer not being tied down to anyone's schedule or personality.

I enjoy companionship to a point, but am not conversationally inclined when out searching. Prospecting is a lonely hobby for the most part. So, you learn to be more self-reliant about your needs, and enjoy the satisfaction of living in the great outdoors. There are plenty of Nature's distractions to fill each day.

Depends, I like both about (almost, just about) equal.....Detecting is more fun when you have a buddy around...To me it is all about fun...I do like to detect alone, but it is kinda like drinking alone, you know you are really hooked when you are by yourself doing it....Plus sometimes it is a whole lot safer to have someone around........lol............Tom

I really like hunting with a partner but some time you have to watch who you take to your hot spots because they may have more time to hunt then you and go there on there own and wipe your spot out. Say if you find a virgin camp site ,you and you buddy hunts it the next day your at work and he or she is swinging away.

Hi, I'm new to this MD thing and own a 250 and a BH QDII. Where do you guys hunt that you feel is unsafe? A public park in a bad neighborhood or maybe a desolate homestead?

Parks - Hunt alone
Desert - Hunt with a partner

pawpaw i dont think its a safety issue/ its a friendship issue. just my 2 cents. 99.5 percent i hunt alone.

Parks --- I go heeled.

Wood's --- I go heeled.

Sleep in my own home --- Shotgun and highbeam beside bed.

Not scared, just a realist. :icon_scratch:

I like to just pick up and go, but on long or overnight trips I no longer go alone.
I have an old back injury and never can tell when it will act up or get the vehicle
stuck or step on a rattler.

When I hunt on the rivers for artifacts by boat I take my dog. I used to have a hunting partner but she got tired of me and my adventures so now I hunt alone. Double the finds I guess now? Just have to be more careful on the deep waters.
Metal detecting I hunt alone with an occasional guest to share with. Pretty safe for me out in the backwoods. I feel at home. People hesitate to approach you when no one else is around. Listen for signals eyes wide open. Stay within the areas you have permission for. I feel sorry for the ones that do not have permission and could be confronted.
Enjoy however you hunt and make it fun and be prepared for whatever may come your way. :icon_sunny:
