Do You Do The Majority Of Your Hunts Alone Or With Friends????

I've metal detected for 30 years, I have a buddy who i detected with maybe 15 times, he was way too fast missed way to many things and lost interest in the hobby. I tried to slow him down, but it didnt work. I even offered to buy his detector from him , it was same brand and model as mine but he didn't want to sell. Now it collects dust in a corner the past 5 years... We still go out together but now its fishing on and off, so we have not lost our friendship.. so I hunt alone come and go as I please, and maybe would hunt again with someone again but this time it would have to be a woman...

All you have to be is honest with each other and share the desire to hunt.

why complicate something as simple as this with a whole lot of personal garbage.
leave all that behind,
life is too short not to enjoy each others company,
as well as being able to share the knowledge you both may have.

My partner is one of the best treasure hunters I know,
First of all he is my friend.
We don't always agree, but I trust his intuition and trail savvy against any of the best.
And the fact that he is honest is the other and most desirable trait he has.

I am lucky to share his confidence and I won't do a recovery without him.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant,
I am sure that MDing is different from what we do,
You all have to realise that certain fields require a partner, a buddy, or even just a trusted friend.
I have done this alone and have been very lucky.
Many others who have tried it alone didn't come out as lucky.
Most are either not doing it any longer or are crippled or even dead.

metal detecting is a hobby
Treasure hunting is an obsession,
and believe me it goes much deeper than coinshooting.
End of said rant.

sorry once again. I really don't like to hear all the negative things about partners.
if you find a good partner your experience will be enhanced four fold.

If you like to hunt with a partner that is fine i don't care........But i don't want a partner to hunt with we are all diffrent have diffrent likes.............I don't smoke never did but if you want to smoke that up to you not me...........If we all had to like the same things or do the same thing......i think they call that......sociallsm or communism.....................The problem with the world now is everyone thinks that because they like a certain thing everybody should like it................Oh Ya and if they don't like something no one should like it....so lets make a new law take more of our freedom away............I'm done

Jim,

I am not asking anyone ..Especially you.
To do anything they don't want to do.

To bring Communism into the conversation is just as ridiculous as assuming I am.

I don't recommend you do the kind of hunting I do without a good partner,
That is all I have to say about it.

If you feel my post offensive
scroll past it and forget it.
I'm just tired of all the negativity.

We do a totally different kind of hunting than most.
It does not even compare with a single person with a MD going out and shooting for a coin.
The hazards we encounter are many time different that what you will encounter.

These posts are only opinion,
you obviously have yours and are welcome to it.

This one is mine.

There have been some places I've been hunting that give me the creeps. Having a hunting partner looking out for you would be nice. But most of my hunts are not planned. I carry my detector with me and hunt when I can.

I HUNT ALONE A LOT. MY FRIENDS ARE BUSY ARE WORKING WHEN I M/D. I AM RETIRED AND I HUNT EVERY CHANCE I GET. SOME PLACES I WON'T HUNT ALONE.

:stop:  ...Like i said for me about 95% of my hunting is alone i like it better that way. Most of the places i hunt are safe...But there are times that a place i want to hunt i have to have a freind with me in order to feel safe...............Other wise i like to hunt alone................................ :stop: :stop: :coffee2:

Mr. Pepper and I hunt together 99% of the time. He goes his way I go my way. If we need each other we are only a gun fire away. 8)

I'd say 75% of my hunts are with friends............personally, I think it's more fun to hunt with friends. Hunting with good people is more than metal detecting. It's friendships and sharing the excitiment of the hobby. I love to see the finds the people I hunt with make..........their excitment is mine.

i always hunt with someone its great to have someone there to share in the fun and excitment even if i dont find anything i have a good day just spent with friends...

I'm retired, I hunt alone with my Smith & Wesson to keep me company......

I hunt 50/50. Two weeks ago my hunting partner and lifetime friend Tensas and I, were hunting on a private deer hunting club. We were in deep woods and separated by 1/4 mile. I was down digging a target, when I got a weird feeling. Never saw anything, but these woods are full of black bears and wild hogs. I backed out of there, keeping a close eye on my surroundings. Boy was I glad to See Tensas. Spur of the moment hunt and we did not take handguns.

I AGREE WITH SANDMAN. AT MY AGE AND CONDITION I COULD NOT FIGHT OFF A POODLE.

about 90 percent of the time i am with one or all my brothers most sundays we hope into my Suzuki xl7 and go to one of the many small old towns around here :)

I'm more or less the Lone Ranger. Before she was struck down with MS my wife was my hunting partner and she really misses it. My working partner used to hunt with me often but he upped and moved to Montana so it's just me and my beeper against the world. ;D

I do most of my hunting alone..I have two friends I have met on forums, one from here, Debby and my other buddy Rick, We don't get to hunt together alot but we get together when we can, I would dearly love to find someone locally to balance everything out, like I stink at research. I would love to have some old sites to share a buddy with, and for me to learn more about the research end as well, a good team to compliment each others strengths and weakness's... But, I am going with one of my buddys tomorrow and I am so looking foward to this..

This was a very interesting subject to ask..

It is hard for me to explain to my wife how I can spend hours digging holes in the ground and, most of the time,
coming home with a hand full of pull tabs and pennies.
It is only those of you out there who have the fisherman's mentality. You know, that zone you get into waiting for hours anticipating that big fish striking your bait. It is with that same anticipation you spend hours doing deep knee bends, digging in dirt, swatting mosquitos, and looking over your shoulder for anyone coming up on your six o'clock.
I to like the freedom of being out on my own and calling my own shots as to how long I stay out and which location I hunt.
Too all of you who love this feeling, I salute you!
