You busted them! So they crawled up to your porch with their tails between their legs in the middle of the night to return cam. I think they should have handed the camera to you in person and apologized. I’d turn them in to the sheriff and file a complaint. At a minimum, they should get a visit from a county deputy. They will at least be “known to the sheriff’s” for future reference.
 

The walk of shame has more effect than the long arm of the law sometimes.
 

I had two trail cams close together on an old logging road. These guys stole one but missed the other. I posted these pics on a local facebook group.. Several people recognized them and we found the stolen camera on my porch the next day.

Glad to hear you got camera back. There's nothing much worse than a damn thief. I have absolutely no tolerance for them. I'd turn them in also to the Sheriffs office. Put them on the radar. They asked for it.
