Thanks everyone. Here is what I know.

The little ring came apart while I was cleaning it. I was using my monster pinky to stabilize it. Itā€™s most definitely gold but it doesnā€™t have a mark. It was down about 7ā€, I had to take a hammer to my digging knife to chisel it out. The little piece the ringmaster soldered in is yellow gold and the ring is rose gold. I don't think that can be seen very well in the picture. You can see where the ringmaster soldered it (the green arrows are pointing to the marks). He really use low grade gold solder because it looked like plan old regular solder.

I donā€™t think that you can see that in the pictures. The stone looks real too, Iā€™ll have it tested and report back. Hey, it originally was a baby ring with a handset stone. I don't think most people would get thier baby a fake ring.

It has no sluffing, flaking, pitting or rusting. I do see a little discoloration, but that normal for 10k gold that has been in the ground for a long period of time, depending on what alloy is use makes a difference in color fading.

My GUESSES on the ring 7" deep is GOLD, not plated.

Your last photo posted (last one prior to this post) is gold plate.

For your sake, I'm hoping they are BOTH 14k or more. Great photos, as usual.

What detector do you use for finding these rings?

You hit the nail on the head TreasureTales. Sorry I missed the question about what detecter I use.

Nice finds, Ant, but i have the same question as TreasureTales,

What detector are you using?

I'm using the Gold Bug 2 by Fisher. It took me about 6 to 9 months to master it. I still dig lots of trash, but I find gold too. When the GB2 passes over gold one will dig because the signal is so strong.

At 72 MHz the GB2 is rumored to be the best detector for small gold, not to good on depth but after you learn it you can pick up on the deep +- signals. I run the 10 1/2" coil. The only weak point is the toggles switches which foul out quickly if they are not bullet proofed by bagging or sealing like I do.

Fisher doesnā€™t sponsor me or offer free batteries, so from now on I'll try not to mention that.

Hey .......a ring is a ring! Some are better than others but you have

to find them !! Thats the task at hand! HH and Good luck in the

Future.............WTG ;)

Ant, thanks for the update and the answers to the quiz.

You are doing really well with your detector. I've heard good things about Fisher MDs. I use a clear shower cap (the kind you can get in motel rooms) to cover the box of my detector (Tesoro) so that it doesn't get gunked up. The elastic band around the edge of the cap is just taut enough to hold it in place. I must admit that it is sometimes a hassle trying to set the knobs and toggle switches with the shower cap in the way. How do you protect your detector?

Well, here's hoping you continue to find such great rings. It's a real rush to see the glint of gold, isn't it???!!!!!

Nice finds Ant, beautiful rings!!
Oh well, wrong guess on every one :)
Just like picking football...
make my best guess at the winner,
then put my money betting the opposite way ;)

Smiles!

Hi TreasureTales.

I just happened to replace my seal/cover today. I use an extra large latex glove. I cut the fingers off so that Iā€™m left with a square he size of face on the control box. Then I tape in place. I place a small piece of tape on the on the places I need to cut holes for the knobs so that the latex wonā€™t split. I leave the toggle switches sealed covered (no slits). I protect the toggle switches with a piece of tape so the switches wonā€™t cut through the latex. ā€˜

Iā€™ve only heard good things about Tesoro MDā€™s. A few years ago a guy that calles himself RD from Indio found 25 thousand in gold (when gold was down) not far from me, out in the Dale Mining District. He was using a Lobo ST.

I still have three rings to post.

Thanks again.

P.S...
Someone asked me about the site, but I would rather not say too much about that. At the moment I only mention that information on a need to know basis. Ifā€™ I start mentioning the type of site people will narrow it down and beat me to the goodies. Iā€™ll give out that information when I finished hunting it.

HH.
