DiggerGirl's FIRST SEATED, and TWO SPANISH for the Total!

Hello All,

Went out and got into a new field hoping to find some signs, or perhaps stumble on some CW relics or farmer dropped coins. Well, I guess some will say that we make it look easy...but after working so hard for two decades at the greatest hobby in the world, I'm glad to see that luck shines her face on us sometimes! That was certainly the case with our finds today. I was so pleased that we both made some great finds. Take a look at the video and photos below:

Spanish #1:

Spanish #2:

1838 Seated Dime, found by DiggerGirl, right on top of the ground!

And the happy finder! For those who didn't see the wedding proposal video, ya missed out. The honeymoon is going to be a bottle dig. :)

Half Real #1 (Carolus III, 1700s--Dateless :-\ )

Half Real #2 (1799)

And the 1838 Seated Dime. Oddly, not an Orleans mintmark!

There were some other cool relics on the video that I'm not going to post photos of here. It's a bit too early to start the spanish silver countdown for 2013, as we will try again to break 20 spanish for the year... but ...if we can break 20, that'd mean 40 spanish silvers in two years, which would be pretty incredible.

Happy Hunting to All,

Buck

In the video, DG said it was not her oldest U.S. coin. What is her oldest U.S. then? Great hunt and nice variety of relics too. Looks as if an attempt was made to hole one of your Reales. HH, Q.

Congrats to both of you on both silver finds and the engagement!

Congrats on your silver. Digging together is cool. Finding together is the best what can happen!

i know a beach hunter already has 3 diffrent reales, i think one is a 8 reale, Good Finds! I want to go detectin now! save some for me!

She was thinking of her spanish half real from last spring, but this is her oldest US coin. She hasn't dug a LC. But it'll happen. :)

Hey BB - I was just noticing that the reverse of your 1799 half reale has what looks like a scar in the center. It's possible that could have been where a shank was attached from where it once was a coin button. I have a similar one somewhere, and Steve in PA has found one with the shank still intact (I think). I may try to find a pic of that, but hopefully he'll chime in and post it. That would make your find just that much more unique.

I just found one on the web, but it wasn't Steve's. Here's the link to view the pics:

You just never know (1749 half real-button)

You can google "button made from half reale" and find other examples. Not sure that's what you have, but it's entirely possible.

Wow, now that looks like fun....Spanish silver and picking seateds. :hello2: WTG to Diggergirl! Great site; good luck on future hunts.

Shanegalang dug one dated 1814 with the remnants of a shank on the back at our colonial tavern site last year. I thought it looked like a solder mark! Fantastic!

Here's the photo of the one Shanegalang dug (see reply #3):

Could not get online to respond until now... once again, you have an awesome place to search. Congratulations on the two picayune 's and to Digger-girls SE dime. Your posts make me want to take up my friends offer and come visit him in La.--He has much history about him in Plainville.

WTG on a SWEET Hunt! That's a LOT of Spanish Silver!

Congrats, Buck! You DO make it look easy...but we both know it's not. It's a lot of hard work and a lot not so good stuff dug along the way! HH Congrats to diggergirl's seated! It's a beaut.
