Didn't they drop any coins?!
I spent the day recovering from the disappointment of yesterday's election by going out to the woods and a cellar hole I've been searching for a couple years. We had temps near 70 today; it was nice to be out in the warm sunshine, working my butt off for hours for a few minutes of detecting. This foundation is so old that there are lots of small trees to be removed if one wishes to actually search the ground around it. There are also dozens, if not scores or hundreds, of foundation rocks scattered about. They sap lots of energy, but have to be moved too. The site is also a good hike from civilization, so it was a physical day to say the least. I've spent probably 20 hours at this site, clearing the ground so I could search and then actually searching. So far, I don't have a single coin to show for the effort! I managed an old brass wedding ring last year, and a musketball, but the most common finds are old rusty nails. Today, I managed this ornate item, whatever it is. It's heavy for its size, probably brass, and might have been a knocker or handle to a piece of furniture. These are only guesses. I'm convinced that there are old coins about; I just have to work to find them. So far, DrDetector has been at the site; I'm waiting to see if he has the courage to go back! Kiros32 has been invited as well; maybe we'll see what he thinks. This old place has a house and barn foundation at least, probably an outhouse foundation and there should be a well and dump somewhere within reach too. Here's a picture of today's single find .
