Did we find something?

Found a large "pile of rocks" mound, about 30 to 40' long, maybe 18 or so wide at bottom about 7' tall. Obviously man made. In a remote mountainous area. The area appears to have possibly been an early Spanish mining area. Didn't notice at first but later I noticed while standing back from the mound about 20 feet away on one side of the mound I notuced 7 areas that had different colored rocks in areas that made me think of "windows". Like they were rock made "windows" in the mound. On another trip to the area we probed ome of the "window" sections (carefully) and after several hours we found a map that was sandwiched between 2 rock or metallic disks. The map was extremely fragile. We took several cell phone pictures and very soon afterwards the map disentigrated. After much study of the map we found the location the map was indicating which is about 2 miles NNE of the rock mound. Upon reaching this area we found a natural cave entrance with Spanish symbols and markings on the rock face just outside the cave entrance. We also realized tha it appeared the cave was a den for a mountain lion. We have not yet made any attempts to enter the cave yet but hope to soon. We are very curious about the rock mound and it's overall meaning. We have not yet attempted to probe the other 6 "windows".

I just posted a photo of a rock from the mound, does have bit of gold in it.

Added better view of the distinct areas in the mound that I call "windows".

Yep.. looks like a tailing pile..

The rocks are definitely alluvial. In that landscape, there could be hundreds of feet of alluvium above bedrock.

"Niches" are interesting, possible just to give structure to the rock pile tho.

On the map thing... I'm keeping my waders on.

I agree that the "rocks" are tailings, and I also say they haven't been moved from where they were originally placed, why would anyone do all that work, I think this is the key to the "windows".... "I just posted a photo of a rock from the mound, does have bit of gold in it"..., it is obvious to me what the windows are, they are where someone was metal detecting the "tailings" looking for chispa, i.e., gold in quartz rock, they built the "windows" to keep the rest of the tailings from caving in on them while digging deeper into tailings looking for specimens.

I don't have a clue to the map, unless it is a joke or something is in the "cave".

But as a gold prospector I would be back at the tailings with a good gold detector and find some of the "chispas" for myself, which from the picture of the gold (I can't tell for sure from the picture if it is really gold :dontknow:) in the rock this is the real treasure here, just from the picture of the possible gold in the rock there is about $400 worth of gold in that rock that I can see and maybe more inside of the rock!! :o :o

That's just my 2 cents.

Gollum,

Sure glad I read your post, before I posted. You've pretty well summed up what I was going to say. i.e., alluvial, etc.

Incidentally, one of the first things I was wondering about, was how far and how much time did it take to carry all of those rocks to build a "mound"?? Who ever expended that much effort must have had a good reason, unless the area is in the middle of an old alluvial channel.

I don't think we'll hear from junglejim again. I only wish my friends were not so disparaging, perhaps we could have "strung him along" long enough to at least get a good laugh out of it. :headbang: :headbang:

I think he found something that he thought was a map. It was possibly a fabric remnant.

Find anything in the cave of any interest?

No, No, No!!! I said strung him ALONG, NOT Strung him UP! Doggone, I've never been threatened with a Texas Necktie before. :laughing9:

Seriously though, you're totally right. I guess I kinda got caught up in the moment. Actually, I've heard taller tales than this that I thought were BS, then later found out that they were true.

So, I guess I owe everyone and apology, especially junglejim. I apologise. Next time I'll stop and think before I put my fingers to work.

Incidently, I WAS intrigued with his story and would love to see the actual site for myself. I have a hard time with pictures. Just not the same as the real thing. The problem with the story, as mentioned above is, he didn't know if the "map" was between two stone disks, or two metal disks. I would think that my 10 year old son could tell the difference between stone and metal. (If I had a 10 year old son.) :laughing9:

Anyway, creepy or not, I'd still like to check it out. Hell, maybe it's just my ancestors telling you to keep out. :laughing9: :laughing9:

Eagledown that was big of you to apologize. :icon_thumright: We need to give everyone here the benefit of the doubt. But I agree with the metal/rock part. Its not hard to tell the difference. That part got me too. And Gollum says there is nothing to indicate old Splanish and he has experience in the area.

Now that you mention creepy, Im thinking they are grottos something like the Santeria altars we have here in Miami. Did you find any candles? Or they were made by a prior treasurehunter for support as they dug deeper or maybe they are wind shelters. :-\ :dontknow:

Snapper (and everybody else),

Remember the biggest problem with the whole story. The disintegrating map. Beginning with that, and jumping to the "Spanish" origins without an answer why he thought it was of Spanish Origin, all smells a lot like somebody getting ready to spin an even taller tale.

Las Cruces NM makes sense. I was going to say it looks just like southern az.... It doesnt look anything like mining tailings though, those are all around where i live.

Camo,

They look exactly like tailings from a placer working of a dry riverbed. All that rock is alluvial (note the smooth edges). If it were from a hardrock mine, it would be considerably lighter in color than the surrounding surface rock, and very sharp a jagged looking.

The rock in 4th pic does look to have gold in it :hello2: Plenty more rocks to check on that site

LOOKS like gold is correct Spike. If I take a chunk of Pyrite and photograph it out of focus, I'll bet it looks just like gold too.

Like I said before, the whole "disintegrating map" thing puts everything in this story in the "needs proof" file.

Highly unlikely that whoever did all of that work making the tailings pile would miss a big chunk of gold. Pyrites ( :icon_pirat: ) they would know very well and toss them in the pile.

Did we find something?

Yes. Placer mine tailings.

Green check please. ::) (if the Brujos didn't already getcha :laughing7: )

Well,

It would have been easily possible for them to have missed that chunk of gold. I see it all the time that someone finds a big chink in a tailings pile. I just don't like that the only picture of it is so blurry. If you mix that in with the disintegrating map it doesn't look good. But........I could be wrong.
