Did we find something?

Found a large "pile of rocks" mound, about 30 to 40' long, maybe 18 or so wide at bottom about 7' tall. Obviously man made. In a remote mountainous area. The area appears to have possibly been an early Spanish mining area. Didn't notice at first but later I noticed while standing back from the mound about 20 feet away on one side of the mound I notuced 7 areas that had different colored rocks in areas that made me think of "windows". Like they were rock made "windows" in the mound. On another trip to the area we probed ome of the "window" sections (carefully) and after several hours we found a map that was sandwiched between 2 rock or metallic disks. The map was extremely fragile. We took several cell phone pictures and very soon afterwards the map disentigrated. After much study of the map we found the location the map was indicating which is about 2 miles NNE of the rock mound. Upon reaching this area we found a natural cave entrance with Spanish symbols and markings on the rock face just outside the cave entrance. We also realized tha it appeared the cave was a den for a mountain lion. We have not yet made any attempts to enter the cave yet but hope to soon. We are very curious about the rock mound and it's overall meaning. We have not yet attempted to probe the other 6 "windows".

I just posted a photo of a rock from the mound, does have bit of gold in it.

Added better view of the distinct areas in the mound that I call "windows".

Some of whats on map: heart shaped smbol, spanish mission with 7 windows, 7 squiggly arrows pointing in a direction that we eventually found the cave with some of the same markings at the cave thats on the map. Nobody will ever see the map pictures except us, I am sure you can understand that.

All we can tell you is that you found a pile of rocks...

... in a undisclosed location, that contained a map that you won't show anyone. The site is unique. What help were you looking for?

why do you say the rock opening you found is a "natural Cave" ?
with the piles of rock, more than likely 'tailings' (waste rock) from a mine, there must be a mine or open pit somewhere near where it all came from.
I would have to be persuaded that the so called 'cave' was natural and not the entrance to a man made mine.

Do you have a picture of these metallic discs that the map was sandwiched in between? We may be able to ID these items. What I dont understand is the part where you say "we found a map that was sandwiched between 2 rock or metallic disks." A rock disc? :icon_scratch: Surely you saved them or can go back and find them. It may help if you can describe them better. Also what state are you in?

On our next trip we're gonna examine the disk shape rocks or whatever to see what they really are.

The location that we found by deciphering the map is where the cave opening is. It is obviously a natural opening, not man made. Its about 2 miles from the rock pile "bump" formation of rocks that I started the thread with. The "bump" is made from tailings.

I'm jumping in on this post to get notifications because I am clueless as to what is going on with these rocks. I mean no disrespect, but I'm wondering if someone put the map there as a prank. Some of my MD buddies, especially my cousin Danny is forever planting 'junk' for jokes. One time he buried a piece of copper pipe under a plastic halloween skull, and I about fainted when I dug it. (October ideas for TNet; lol)

I noticed you said you found the map between rock or metal disk. Was it rock or metal, and how did you see the map if it was not a metal hit w/ you MD? How did the map disintergrat before you took a photo of it, at least with your cell phone. Perhaps there is a museum in your area with qualified people to validate the map. I'm not sure if you have it or not because one post you say it disintergrated and in anothe rpost you said we couldn't see it. If you still have it, you may want to go the museum route first before wasting alot of time.

Welcome to TNet. Breezie

I googled tailings pile and it appears you are not the only person looking for treasure in these piles.

Its kinda hard to believe that you would dig a random hole and find a treasure map. Kinda like finding a needle in a haystack. But apparently you found something. Possibly just trash. Unfortunately we cannot help you decide what it is because it disentegrated and you will not show any pictures, so that pretty sums it up. Keep us informed of new developements.
