I was hunting this morning with my nox800 and I'll be honest I never get this lucky. So I get a solid 13 signal and start to uncover this chain. It looks amazing and feels heavy and stamped 14k. Is it possible I hit the big one??

Can you take a close up picture of both sides of the clasp.

Put a magnet to the clasp. I have found 2 gold chains marked 14k Italy both were fake or what I refer to as Ghetto gold. They sell a lot of fake gold at the Joyeria stores, Mexican jewelry stores.
ALL clasps are magnetic... i hope you dont use this method to try and tell if something is real or not... for if you did you have screwed yourself.

All clasps are magnetic due to the STEEL spring that is inside of all clasps.

No all clasps are not magnetic and the corrosion also gave mine away. But I'll weigh my 2 chains up and you can send me the $ minus 35% so you can make a profit on my Ghetto gold.

Your magnet sucks then :P

It does not mean anything if a clasp IS or ISNT magnetic anyway.

Pictures of the clasp... both sides please.... of the lobster clasp... should have clarified... my bad.

This is what i would call a "suspect" piece.
2 red flags...
No marking on lobster moving "tongue"... and jump ring is not soldered.

These make me suspect its not real... but not conclusive.
Testing solution is required to definitively solve.

Have you seen real pieces that have looked like this one before?

I have... and ones with even fake clasps.
What happens sometimes is the necklace original clasps has been replaced for some reason or another with a common one due to breakage or loss.
I have seen gold necklaces with base metal clasps... silver clasps on yellow gold... all sorts of odd things.
There is hope in other words.... the 14k mark is what keeps the hope alive :)

Hope i could be of some form of help.

I just received a private msg from another user watching this... with a larger close-up picture of the links of your necklace... it appears there is a plating issue.
If this is the case and not just a trick of the image /picture... then there is yet another "red flag."

I tried an acid test and it held strong on 10k acid...but I think tomorrow after work I'll stop by a jeweler and see what they say too. Thank you so much for your input and information! Fingers crossed 🤞

I have to say my first gut feeling on the 14K stamp was it looked wrong. Hard to explain why but similar to why a fake hammered coin jumps out at me. Its to do with the crispness of it.
I suspect this one is plated, maybe even 10K plated that would still be very profitable to do.
