I actually got a text from the Mrs when I sent a picture of the totals.
"Great even after the purchase, there'll be enough for a dinner out!"
When I got home she asked what was the 2 totals for?
Then it was a high 5
Always good when the toys come free basically.
Just time and labour

I have a bad problem of not throwing things away. If I can possibly use it later or sell it I keep it.
Now this hobby is definitely going to add to that.
That's a nice pouch dump🤘

The pouch gets dumped, most of the big iron thrown in a barrel, the good keepers removed.
Then there's the times that the detecting day ends late, the next few days are catch up.
Then another detecting day comes, those finds that were in the pouch get dumped in a little box to be sorted-repeat, saw lots of clad, 6+ crotal bells (whole), lots of broken ones. Brass buckles, of various sizes mostly horse tack.

Oh I think that there's many of the same mind.
Then there becomes a time of the purge.
Rainy day funds are sweet though, they come in handy in life.
I was raised by the depression era thinking, never throw it away if it can be used again.
There's 2 sides to that-one can lead to a mess/too many things.

It all adds up over a period of time.
Free $$$ the way I look at it.
Just yesterday I was sorting the boxes/bins/buckets of pouch dumps from detecting.
50 lbs of brass
30 lbs of lead
12 lbs of copper
Plus a whole pail of finds to go through this winter when I'm held up sorting the finds out.
Found a sterling teaspoon and a possible case cover.

What I save is flat bar, angle, channel and stuff like that. I have one scrap yard that let's me go in and shop around. It's like a candy store!

I had a non-ferrous scrap yard for 13 yrs.
So I used to let a "FEW" selected friends in to shop.
My list of folks was small-even movie set pickers (they'd buy the scrap) return it for free! Winner-and it bought a few chicken dinners.
The steel bench/flat bar/steel rack all went for resale.

There’s a retired correctional officer over here that has several truck’s and goes around and picks up metal and makes out very well..

I would always have a good 🤣 at thought when folks would basically be doing the 🤭 when they saw a scrap picker.
So they look down the nose at the dirty attire/beat up truck, thinking how lowly.
Meanwhile the scrapper is just a whistling to themselves.
At when the scrap steel is worth 10+cents a pound folks can easily have $500.00 days, all cash.
Show me a trade that = that take home $$$, and still I will take the scrappers lifestyle.

It’s a great retirement job for him and he is doing well.

It hasn't been a year for the Deus ll so the dust hasn't settled.
Not many options on the high end.

I not really care for the ferrous side of it, 80% more weight for 50% less $$$.
Though it's better than a kick in the arse from a steel toed boot.

Been really kind of busy, not having anytime to do the scrap.
So over the past 8 years I have just thrown it in a pile, and all the detecting iron in barrels.
So it came time to start cleaning this pile up.
An assorted collection in behind the small shed, out of sight=out of mind, but it was starting to flow onto the access lane to the sugar bush lane.
This has been a direct result of a house renovation, barn demolition, an auction, iron detecting finds for a decade

I then it got me thinking it's time to clean it up, so on and off for 2+ weeks, to get it all sorted.

I sold some reusables for $400-Basically a little over what I would of got from the scrap yard to a couple of buddies.
Net result $400.00

Yesterday I got the 40 yrd bin of steel taken to the scrap yard net result 16,200 lbs of oversize clips category.

So there's still a monel water tank to be processed/tested/sold price can very from $ 2.00-5.00 a pound.
Misc irony alum, bits and pieces that were missed. But most of it was cleaned up and recycled into $$$.
Even the bits and pieces of iron that accumulated for a decade got the toss.

Over the years folks have done the "What are you going to do with it all"
Basically not really seeing the scrap=$ side of the trade/industry.
Granted it's easier in life to just throw it in garbage, recycling bin at the landfill-carry on.
My thinking is yes a mess, my mess, don't worry about mine & I fret not about yours.
Total was $5654.03
My first post up was on the Random Chat thread.
I stated my goal was to buy a new detector.
My thinking is now I have enough left over for a dinner out with the Mrs.

Just got back from a new permission.
The cellar holes are so overgrown with weeds, prickly Ash, and I'm starting to think that 4 sites have produced really nothing.
Might be a early spring thing, to knock it down.

I go to the dump a lot. Man you could make an absolute killing if you could pick those piles. Unreal the stuff people toss out.
