I have the 11" coil,that`s the only coil i have,works great for me .
I can`t comment on any other coil,a lot of the fellas have a number of coils and can help.

I have the 11" for depth and coverage and the 9.5x5 HF for trash (which is no slouch when it comes to depth, either). Seems to be a good setup to me.

I started with the 11" and really liked it. I picked up the 9" later, and use it a lot now.

The 9" separates the targets better in the trash... IMO.

If I had to pick one, it would be the 9"... but, honestly, either will do the trick.

If I could only have one coil for the deus, it would be the 9" legacy (black/low frequency). I have both the 9" and 11" black coils and use the 9" 90% of the time.

If I could only have two coils, they would be the 9" legacy and one of the high frequency (white) coils.
I have yet to use either of the hf coils, however there is an elliptical on its way to me now.

The MI6 pinpointer is very nice also.

I have 11" and 9" LF and 9"HF and I hunt mostly with 9" HF then 9"LF and lastly 11"LF.

90% of my hunting is in the trash running a form of DEUS FAST and my selection may be different at a cleaner site.

The biggest problem I have with my 9"x5.5" Elliptical is my Deus wanting to blow away on windy days when I set it down to dig.

Thank you all for the great advice! It sounds like having both is the best option to use for different scenarios. The 11" is 11x13, right? I see people talking about the 13, and I saw the dimensions being 13x11. Is that correct? Also, is there a 9" LF and a 9" HF, or are they just different settings on the same coil? Thanks again!

Legacy/Black low frequency coils
- 9" round
- 11" round
- 11"x 13" elliptical

High frequency/white coils
- 9" round
- 5" x 9.5" elliptical

i have the black 9 and 11
competition 11
farmlands 11
parks 9
beaches when extreemly treachy 9 otherwise 11 lol
patato fields before the flatten them 9

You use the HF or LF 9?

I own 3 coils, black/legacy/lf 9"and 11" and the white/hf 9" round.

Knowing what I know now, I would get a Deus with the 11" coil and save up to eventually get one of the hf coils (my optimal 2 coil setup). If XP sold the Deus with an hf coil, and I could only get one coil, I would get the 9" hf.

If you NEVER plan to upgrade your Deus with more than one coil, get the 9" lf/black (never say NEVER).

I consider the Deus to be basically 2 different machines if you have an lf and an hf coil.

For the lf coils, the only advantage of the 11" over the 9" is ground coverage but that has to be balanced against separation afforded by the 9". Depth delta between the two is minimal. I do not recommend the 11 x 13 lf coil, minimal coverage and depth gain vs. the 11" and way too heavy for the stock shaft such that the assembly feels unbalanced and the lower shafts flexes excessively. You really need to invest in a third party straight shaft setup which will cost additional $$$. Not worth it IMO.

Don't have the elliptical hf coil so cannot comment, but I am happy with the 9" round such that it has become my everyday coil. Geometrically, the hf elliptical coil should not have any additional side-to-side separation than the round since the center spine dimension thickness and length are approximately the same and that is what determines the width of the active search field on a DD coil. If anything, depth should suffer slightly due to the elliptical shape. The only advantage of the elliptical shape is it can be swung better in tight areas. The main advantage of the elliptical coil is that it can be operated at a higher frequency than the round, therefore, it's "electronic" separation and ability to resolve very small targets (it's primarily designed for small gold prospecting) excels over the 9" round (but the 9" coil is no slouch, either).

Thank you very much for your thorough response! I'm going to follow your recommendations and go with the 11(round) and 9 LF coils to start, and later pick up the 9HF! Can't wait to get out there and give it a try. Which headphones do you use with your setup.

Ps, sorry for the late reply after all your great info! It's been a busy few days!

In a real pickle now after hearing about the release of the minelab equinox. Less than half the price of the xp deus, and a third of the price of the CTX 3030. Any opinions on that? Seems like waiting for this release is my best option.

No thanks, I’m done beta testing detectors and detector SW. Deus with Version 4 gets it done, now.

If minelab delivers on its promises for the equinox it might be compelling, especially at the stated price point. It would defintely exel vs. the Deus on salt beach/surf. The main questions are, how light is it and how fast is it vs. the Deus. Minelabs are highly accurate at determining the type of target, the main knock agsinst them (beside cost) is they have slow recovery which affects their ability to separate targets esp. ferrous and non-ferrous. But there will always be a better detector out there worth waiting for. In the meantime, I'm digging targets. I do think it looks like the equinox will kick the AT Max's and Nojta Impact's buttocks at that price.

Yep, AGREE 100%......I just talked to a friend who's selling his Deus and his water machine to buy the new Minelab. Not me, I am just feeling confident with my Deus and it does everything that I ask it to do, including shallow fresh water hunting up to 5'.

In fact I am getting the HF elliptical next week too.

You know what I think...the Equinox will utterly destroy the ML Excalibur market.

I think so too. It's even got folks second guessing the CTX ( lighter, cheaper, faster) but no gps ( big whoop).

I took my Excalibur out of the closet yesterday, contemplating how to lighten that 8 pound boat anchor. With 40kHz available on a lighter weight submersible Equinox I won't even bother with the Excalibur. That said ML has a habit of building boat anchor detectors I'd like to know what the weight is on the EQ.

It looks light but no specs that I have found. Beside weight, it also needs to be balanced, too. That really not something you can tell with just specs. Need to get your hands on one.
