Finders Keepers won their lawsuit and the judge ordered the FBI to release a "trove" of documents, which include almost 1,000 photographs, with more documents supposedly to come. Not a lot of earth shaking news, but it certainly doesn't put anything to rest or answer questions:

Civil War-era gold: FBI's records on Pennsylvania search raise questions

Lawyers, lawyers, lawyers. Always get plenty of lawyers working for you if there is a possibility of striking something valuable. Sure, they cost a lot of money. But they can and do save your bacon when the federales come sniffin'.

Did anyone see "FBI: Most Wanted" last night? It featured a storyline just like the Dent's Run "gold" story. It featured a search for 9 tons of Civil War gold in Pennsylvania that a father/son team had proven was there with high tech scanning techniques. It made the father/son team seem like a couple of complete morons with racist tendencies.

They threw in a few murders for the FBI to solve and the Treasury Department swooped in and did the actual dig, but they supposedly didn't find anything. The nearby residents were hollering at the Treasury agents, saying that they saw the armored trucks leaving the site in the middle of the night, and that they KNEW gold was removed.

Any of this sound familiar?

Didn't see it, but it seems to be the coin of the realm in Hollywood these days to build their plots around "white supremacists" regardless of broader subject matter. But let me guess, they included the disclaimer, “Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental.” Law & Order does this all the time, ironically after airing a week of previews that boast, "Ripped from the headlines".

Newer witnesses since the ruling...

Still an older news story from Oct. 2023

No matter what the "news" the essential question remains: If this story has a basis in fact, where did the gold come from? And why was it deep in the Pennsylvania woods?

Good luck to all,

Great questions. I'm usually very skeptical of large horde legends. This one would be no different except that the searchers got permission from the government, and then there was the big dust up with the FBI. Serious drama around all aspects of this. But that makes finding out what really happened all the more interesting.

During the Civil War, the North manufactured most of its arms and ammunition. The South purchased its from England.

As for the stories about the FBI taking the gold - it belonged to the US Government (if it existed at all, and clearly I don't believe the yarn).

That yarn brought 4 dozen heavily armd agents to dents run.. the FBI has the best researchers on the planet. THE FBI knew it was thier ,Why did the. FBI not let the folks that found the gold watch the dig ? they said they would . Why did the FBI spend hundreds of thousands on ATVs and hotel rooms for all the agents ...if the FBI thought the gold was there Why don't you ?....

I’m waiting to see some US Army paperwork with orders for transporting gold by wagon from WV to PA. The army always had a lot of paperwork, even during the civil war. Even if they were secret orders, there would still be a record somewhere. Library of Congress?🤔 Without some kind of paper trail, it’s just another treasure rumor. Evidence please! Anything!

50,000+ Americans were just killed at gettysburg.. anybody could read paper and they weren't about to leave copies of paper lying around for prying eyes ..America was in a civil war and things had to be done differently ..The FBI knows this that's why the rushed to the scene with four dozen agents carrying auto weapons any good treasure hunter knows that, just like the treasure hunters that found this trove and got shafted doing the right thing. AND all they had to do was let the finder watch the dig but chose to treat him like an idiot and make him sit in his car for hours then sent him home WHILE THE KEPT DIGGING INT THE NIGHT...

I am still waiting on the results of the court case filed, FindersKeepers -V- FBI. I am skeptical of conspiracy theories.

Claiming the possibility of human remains is guaranteed to draw attention from the FBI, and was intentional on behalf of the claimant.

Everything afterward is a ploy and grandstanding for optics.
