So me and 2 buddy’s went to our king Phillips war permission today, we weren’t finding much at first, buttons, musket balls, bell fragments, IHP’s and the usual farm field crappola. I was hunting a long a tree line, minding my own business when I hear someone shouting at me, I looked up and saw my two buddy’s waving their arms at me sooooooooo I started walking over to see what they found. My buddy started stammering saying something I couldn’t understand so I looked in his hand and saw what he just found. Not to spoil the story, I spent the rest of the day looking for another. I found a 1782 Reale and I was disappointed ( just for a second) but a big congrats to him for finding a hard to find coin in any condition. I will picture my crappola first and then his beautiful find.

Coming in second sucks sometimes, but getting an old silver isn't one of those times. Congrats on the Spanish you popped.
Awesome silver your buddy recovered-ya it does suck a tad-but at least you know him and saw it. Sharing a hunt like you both had is a win-win in its self.

Hard to determine the denomination due to lack of scale. Half dime or dime? In any event, extremely low mintage. Big congrats to your buddy!
Half dime, mintage 19,000

Joe, that coin is simply amazing- I'd have to put the grade at least XF- 10K or better. WOW!
He was on the phone immediately with one of the “ coin guys” in our club and that’s what he said although when he has it slabbed he’ll get the “ environmental damage” tag, but to the right collector you never know I guess

Dammit thats a nice one. Congrats to him. That those things are harder to find than gold coins.

Congrats to both of you. Can you convince yourself that you were privileged just to be there when it was found? Or that, for some reason, your buddy "deserved" it more (like you were his guest at his permission...). I hunted with a buddy about 35 years ago and made a decision to avoid some nasty briars. He dove into them and found an 1877 Indian cent in unusually choice EF considering it was in the ground. I figured he deserved it more for going into that briar patch and was happy for him.

So what are friends for!!!!:notworthy: That's a killer find. Can I vote banner for your friend?

Agreed- painfully, I've had a few of those myself.

I just picked up a hickory farms gift basket for the property owner so he’ll call us when he turns over the fields in the spring. We still haven’t hit 5 acres of fields yet and today we’re getting 10” of yankee sunshine so it might be a while before we get to hit it again unfortunately

What a beautiful coin.... and in great condition... my congrats to him!

In that condition , that coin is a National Treasure !
Your buddy should get a lifetime achievement award!!!

Now you need to find it's big brother, the quarter or half, in the same condition. That would keep you in beans and wienies for a while! :laughing7:

Hey Joe Dirt- don't feel like Spanish is a common find! Compared to that 1/2 dime maybe :laughing7: but up here in VT they are really hard to find. I hunt mostly pre-1850 sites and I have only ever found one Spanish silver, a 1782 half real at a late 1700's store site. That one you found is really nice, and who know, maybe you'll find something even crazier next time like a flowing hair half dime!

That's an Amazing find!

Well that one certainly trumps Spanish Silver all day long and then some!!!

This is a ridiculous find and so nice to see it come from Mass.!!!......I really believe that coin will come back Uncirculated Details!!

A HUGE CONGRATS to your friend, finds like this give us all hope.

HH all!

Greg
