Anyone that relic hunts knows that good feeling you get when you pop out the original plug down about 8 inches, and the target is still at the bottom dead centre. Gives you a good idea it's old. Musketballs, small buttons, coins. My $500 detector has no problems finding them at least that deep on a bad day. As for the "Halo" effect I find it's more about the soil - in ploughed ground I rarely dig targets more than 6 to 8 inches deep. The disturbance of the soil seems to affect depth. In pasture or forest land where it hasn't been ploughed in decades I get more depth. I really don't understand why people are having such a hard time with this.

I have an ACE 350 and was digging down here in Florida near some houses where the soil is awful and I hit some pennies and a nickel 10 to 12 inches down.

Congratulation!

There is no halo effect on silver. Since silver does not corrode, it will be very unlikely to create a halo of corrosion around the coin

My Excal want "sniff" a gold ring on a 8 inch air test, but it sure as heck will see it 12+ inches in the ground....

Now I suggest some members here go back and re-read the rules of TreasureNet again.... TreasureNet - Rules

"If you disagree with another member's post, make your comments in a polite and respectful manner."

"Don't attack, provoke, insult, or deliberately offend anyone."

"Keep the discussion civil, respectful and on topic"

Any chance your judgement of 8 inches is easier to ascertain in the air? Once you start poking around in the sand/dirt, it becomes a little more fuzzy what the actual depth is?

Anyway, a video of a 14" buried quarter would be fine. That will help all of the new folks that got excited about finding 14" dimes, make a good decision. Thank you.

Glad to see your posts ! I am getting an ace 350 tomorrow, a step up from the 150. Looking forward to a md w/ pinpointing feature, I think the ace has taught me how to locate and listen to sounds.

I have dug a lot of coins at around the 12" mark...and a couple probably close to 14"...the deeper ones being bigger coins. I have dug dimes at 12". This of course is with a Minelab Explorer which are known for their depth. They were not clear coin signals however. As mentioned above, it's harder to do this in disturbed soil.

after reading this thread, i got up from my computer, walked into the kitchen, got a beer, slapped my wife, headed to the garage, kicked my dog in the face, got in my truck and drove over my v3i, twice.

14" an Amazing depth good find. HH
