Could I wait for my 2 days off, could I bowlegs. I left work early today to start my holiday

Dad had tipped me off where the Saxon Sword Pommel had come from & where I should start detecting. 1st rule always ignore your Dad's advice, they know nothing  I started where my gut told me too!
First run I got a roman coin & on that same run I got the best roman brooch I have ever had;

2nd Century import from Gaul (France). Sea Monster called a Hippocampus. The head of a horse & the tail of a fish. The pin still moves. Its a very rare brooch in amazing condition. I can't explain how happy I am with it.

I had 7 roman coins all with some detail in 2.5 hours by myself!

Is it going to be a good day tomorrow?, more importantly will I sleep!!

Wow! Great finds, Crusader...Just allow me to consider that these finds would have a great collocation in a local museum. It also seems you found an archaeological site, in this case never dig under the plowed soil and I hope you will contact the archaeologists, History would gain something with it....:-))

Cheers!!

Melvin

Forgot one other, I show the land owners everything I find on their land.

SLEEP?????? NEVER!!!!!!
After finds like that, I would be mounting search lights on the detector and be out there all night long.
Great finds!!!

crusader usually recycles most of his finds(especially the bronze ones)

i believe he is out right now looking for more scrap!

Re: Day 1 - Hill Top Field.....AMAZING ROMAN SEA MONSTER!!!!!

Incredible!

As a find, I'm stunned, but history, age, rarity and everything else aside, that piece is crazy beautiful! I wish it was for sale (not that I could afford it if it was), but completely respect that it's not. The banner is a no brainer for such an amazing find, but the object itself is equally amazing.

Congrats!

This site was cleared by 15 detectorist. You can only imagine what they had off, but at least they left me some. Its in crop right now, so next plough we will give it another go until we have finished recording & clearing all signals. We finished the site with about 50 roman coins, most with details. Plus we got 2 coins with obverse legends which are not in the Sears books. So rare variants ;D

UPDATED:

Just had our first show & tell with this farmer. Showed him all the pieces & gave him some coins & offered him half the money for the brooch (which he declined). The brooch is now offically mine ;D
