Hello,

I have a statue that is similar to the one of King Darius, smaller in size about 30cm, from stone (heavy stone)it is complete with the head.
it has been found in an old grave along with a very tall skeleton by my grandfather about 50 years ago, only couple of months ago i found out that it is very similar to the statue of Darius and has Persian writings on the base and on the robe of the statue. Some archaeologists from Turkey told me that i'm not even aware what i have in possession. My question: how much would its value estimated and where to sell it???

Thanks

Моето летачко возило е полно со јагули
(Which translated means (not literally) “we believe in our Macedonian brothers” )

Од Македонија си со потекло? (Are you originally from Macedonia?)

As far as lawyers from my country, there is no way they would represent me, in our country even if a detector is found in your car (u don't have to be found using it) u will get jail time (not blaming the law, too much archaeological sites have been destroyed by treasure hunters, and that's why they enforce this law). I myself, i'm not a treasure hunter, i just found these in my grandfathers(my mothers father) belongings in a wooden chest (they have been used to keep personal stuff with a lock) in my uncles ceiling, and my uncle told me the history how these were found, and told me to take them if i liked them, as i did.

Actually, this quote "Моето летачко возило е полно со јагули" translates to "My flying car is full of eels".
From an old Monty Python skit.
Just my way of welcoming you to our wonderful detecting site.
Or maybe my Macedonian is rusty.

Thank you, thank you!
And for my next number....
I'm on a marathon P.D. Wodehouse reading kick right now,
brilliant, simply brilliant.
And it's nice that the series follows so closely to the books.

Actually, that is the literal translation ("My flying vehicle is full of eels"), when an american (we have peace corps volunteers in Macedonia) uses it in Macedonian they have told me, they express "we believe in our Macedonian brothers"

Македонскиот не ти зарѓал брат, само напред

Your best bet is to list both of those statues on eBay,..with a reserve. You will get a nice worldwide audience,...and top dollar!!! :laughing7:
On second thought, forget the reserve and start the listings at 9.99. Watch those puppies SOAR! Heck,..I might even bid on them. You might want to shine them up first.

You are in a difficult position my friend. I am assuming that any authority that see's these items in your possession will confiscate them and you will end up in prison. How do you plan on transporting them? Don't advertise this kind of stuff anywhere, there are people who will track down your location (ip address) and you will be robbed or worse for the kind of $$ you are talking about. Antiquities are probably the highest crime business period, you cannot trust anyone.

Sothebys or any other large auctioneer's will not sell items like yours, you have no proof of ownership, or proof of how they were obtained. If you have a 5m Euro offer I would take it and leave the country for safer surroundings. Just be damn careful or your will not have your 5m$ very long.

Not quite sure why you wouldn't take the cash. Not certain why you're canvassing people here for an alternative to maximize your sale of the items. Not certain why you wouldn't bring these to some clearing house to get the maximum amount authentic items you have should get.
Kind of stretches the limit of any common sense or imagination. Got to be a few legit places in your country which would address all your concerns. Good luck with all your efforts..........................

Golly, I never want this to end.
By the way, having posted before that my Macedonian is a little rusty,
what does Македонскиот не ти зарѓал брат, само напред translate to?
One of the words translates to zargjal, no idea what that means.
Јас мирис на верверица!
