Hello,

I have a statue that is similar to the one of King Darius, smaller in size about 30cm, from stone (heavy stone)it is complete with the head.
it has been found in an old grave along with a very tall skeleton by my grandfather about 50 years ago, only couple of months ago i found out that it is very similar to the statue of Darius and has Persian writings on the base and on the robe of the statue. Some archaeologists from Turkey told me that i'm not even aware what i have in possession. My question: how much would its value estimated and where to sell it???

Thanks

I'm sorry - can't help in this matter yet. I don't know anybody else who would pay more than 5 million Euros for it. But I recently inherited 11 million in Nigeria. Former minister of finance Mboko Alele is preparing all the necessary documents for me at the moment and will transfer it pretty soon to my bank account.

very funny, from Nigeria!!!

I'm no expert by any means, but sometihng seems off with that thing.... almost artificially worn?

"It's good to be the King" (Mel Brooks)

This is another statue found in the same grave.

Using two different cameras to take photos with I see.

You need an expert opinion, and that will not be done with photos. It would have to be in person to inspect the artifacts.
Good luck.

I know that this wont be done using photos just, im ready to accommodate whoever has interest to see them in person, but only if he/they have serious intentions.
here are 2 photos taken with the same camera (only to clarify your doubts)

I am no expert on antiquities, but I would guess they are real and the OP's story is true. Let's give him/her the benefit of the doubt for a moment.

My advice is to HIRE A LAWYER. You bring these artifacts to any museum or university, they will get confiscated by the police, guaranteed. Once they're out of your possession, you'll never get them back. Selling artifacts on the black market is a bad idea, so don't go that way. Chances are they'll get stolen by con artists and you won't be getting any money. Get a good lawyer who has expertise in antiquities cases, and proceed from there. Asking metal detectorists on an internet forum is not going to get you good information. Many of us can't even identify things we dig up in our own country. Find a real expert who deals with antiquities and the laws surrounding their trade.

Thanks for ur reply,
I'm from Macedonia.
I asked u this because i don't know any lawyer in my country that has had any case with antiquities. I'm in a big crossroad right now...

I'm sure there are lawyers in the US who would gladly help you. If it is really worth 10 million Euros or more, they will line up around the block to handle your case, in fact. An internet search should easily produce a few who have experience in antiquities.

I am sure there are Attorneys in your country that handle Antiquities, I mean your country is one big Antique. Me personally I think if the pieces are real then they must be stolen because the War over there has made it possible for Ancient Artifacts to surface on the blackmarket.

And I am sure any story told here could be believed, but no one, and I mean no one comes to a web site where people metal detect, and try to hold true to Antiquities Laws and try to follow the law. And ask what is this worth.......

No disrespect friend but you need to seek either legal help as described or seek life else where as I myself do not want to be lumped in with anything that might be labled as criminal with this and I love this site and it would be ashamed if the site was brought down due to ones selfish wants.

Sorry if I sound negative but lately there seems to be this anti detectorist attitude with some. Not in here but Land owners and Public parks and such.

I find it interesting that the post went from 'dude shouldn't be robbing grave sites', then when OP said it was found on the roadside after a washout it went to it must be fake, then it goes back to this is in some way criminal.

Look, first, please read the real/fake posting at the top of this board. OP did not ask for authentication nor is he trying to sell the item to you.

Second, we do not know anything about a crime and possession does not imply crime. OP did not give any details that indicate his possession of this is a crime.

I recently had a friend who posted here about finding a 1733 real. This guy was not only an expert detector but an expert numismatist. But there had to be a post lecturing him that what he had was a 'facsimile' because it was to good to be true.

I know people are well intentioned, but please take a moment to filter what you are saying before saying it. As I understand it, questioning authenticity of an item is not allowed unless it says copy or if OP asks. And please don't assume a crime unless a crime is actually mentioned. Obviously, you don't like it when people assume metal detecting in a park is a crime...

(Which translated means (not literally) “we believe in our Macedonian brothers” )

Од Македонија си со потекло? (Are you originally from Macedonia?)

As far as lawyers from my country, there is no way they would represent me, in our country even if a detector is found in your car (u don't have to be found using it) u will get jail time (not blaming the law, too much archaeological sites have been destroyed by treasure hunters, and that's why they enforce this law). I myself, i'm not a treasure hunter, i just found these in my grandfathers(my mothers father) belongings in a wooden chest (they have been used to keep personal stuff with a lock) in my uncles ceiling, and my uncle told me the history how these were found, and told me to take them if i liked them, as i did.

If your fishing for a buyer on here nobody is going to offer 5 million euros or 6.6 million us dollars. If you have that kind of offer take it. If they throw you in jail for having a metal detector then I can only imagine that they put you in front of a firing sqaud for having these two statues in your pocession. Sell...

To tell u the truth i'm not satisfied with that sum, i know that the buyer will sell it for more then 10million, he is just making a trade, he told me himself, finally, if i don't get a deal as i wish for i'll keep them in my CD cabinet.
