I would like to remember, and thank, all your young country men. 70 years ago thousands waded off landing craft, carying 70/80 pounds of kit, into 5ft of freezing water. Straight into German machine gun fire, thousands never made the beach. The history of Europe would have been much different, if thousands more had not pushed forward against all odds.

Many Thanks
Robert.

Rob thank you for remembering the men and women of the armed forces that walked into hell to preserve our freedom and stand up against evil. I'm not sure people truly appreciate or can comprehend what this world might look like today without these sacrifices. These are heroes of the highest degree. They knew they were going to die and stepped onto that beach because they believed in what they were fighting for. Thanks again Rob. Awesome post

This has bothered me a bunch and I don't truly feel complete, even though I served active duty and had crazy experiences and served in great units, I don't feel like I really served.

Hey Mr. Pointman, You made yourself available to serve your country...that makes you a hero in my book!:icon_salut:

Also a big thanks to the women (and men) who worked in the defence plants and built the Landing craft used in the invasion. My Mother worked in the shipyards in Evansville, Indiana where the LSTs were built that carried the Soldiers across the Channel. The US Government gave a special award to defence workers who's departments were considered the best at their particular jobs. It was the Army Navy Excellence award. A little red, white, and blue silver medal with a big E on it. My Mom told me her assembly department got the medals but she lost hers one day while at a park near the Ohio River shipyards where they spent lunch on nice days.

Last year I was detecting in that park a lot and found an Army Navy Excellence award medal. Since hundreds of workers ate lunch in that park I don't know if it was my Mother's but I like to think it is. She passed over twenty years ago. I use the pic of the medal as my T-net avatar.
