I dug a nice NY button in a “hunted out” Confederate camp near Shelbyville TN. It’s rare to dig New York relics in our area. I dug it with an Equinox 600 that heard the button beneath a nail. No other union relics were dug in this camp, only coin buttons, round balls, and a beautiful rectangle plain brass militia plate that was dug by another digger with us.
It was a thrill to dig the button as when it popped out of the ground, I saw the high dome of the button so familiar with rare Confederate state buttons. I always wanted to dig a NY button but even on trips to Virginia I came up short. This New York button is a great first for me. The back came off the button when dug, and I used wood glue to seal the two parts back together.
