Hi All,
I never expected to find one of these :o
Gotta say thanks to Mike at Woodland Detectors for recommending the
Coiltek 15 WOT,
It will pull new finds from your 'Hunted Out' sites.
This plate was really deep.
It will make a great centerpiece for my NH Militia Buttons :hello2:
My best find in a Looong Time.
See where it stopped the slug :laughing7:
thanks for looking & HH to Everybody
Putting a comparison pic of what I believe is the die match "Tall & sloppy U" style 501
everything looks to match especially the thin serif on top of the S
thanks Mr Ridgeway :notworthy:

Man - those buttons look great too! Send that mud flat down here :icon_thumright:

Look into subscribing to North South Trader - it will help you down the road with the CW era stuff.

Keep up the great work in the field!
Thank you! can't help myself, gotta keep swingin ;D

You are massing a fine collection. :notworthy:

Great find! Used to be a common find back in the heydey of detecting, but not as much these days. I found this similar one a couple years back, but it has a .54 cal. nick in the bottom. Mine didn't stop the slug. ;)

Not the same die, obviously. Yours looks like it still has the gilt intact. I've never seen that before.

Thanks All!
DirtDigler,
The plate and most other brass items from the salt mud have long lost their gilding.
It is just the look of shiny pitted brass from the corrosive effects.
I have a couple buttons that have bits of gilt left, it actually shows a duller color than the brass.
Your example with the 'Nick' is outstanding :o
Great digs to you!!
