CW buckle - etched "WE WON" UPDATED

I went out not expecting to find very much but just had the itch to swing my arm so I headed out to a park where I have found a couple of relics in the past. I dug a bunch of junk. Then on my way back I got a strong surface signal that I almost passed up thinking it was a can or large junk. I decided to dig and about 2 inches down I found the carbine sling buckle. A little bit later I found the .69 caliber 3 ringer.
I got home and cleaned it up and started looking online to identify the buckle. Some buckles had the makers mark in the pictures so I started looking closely at mine and noticed it had some etching. That is when I really got excited. Some of it was hard to make out and whoever did it didn't etch it very deep which made it more difficult. The second picture is the best I can get of it and what I and several other people with me see is "WE WON". All the other relics I have found in the area have been Federal.
I am not one to imagine things or jump to conclusions, but it is there. The W for "won" is extremely hard to see due to the buckle being in the shape it is (looks like it has been hit with a plow a couple times) and the O is roughly scratched in the shape of a triangle.
I know there will be some people who say they can't see it, and it isn't there. I am sorry but this is the best picture I can get of it. It is hard to see when holding it in different light and angles so I was surprised that at least some of it can be seen.

I can see it, really an awesome find. Imagine the feeling the guy had when there are no more forced marches, no one shooting at you, no freezing guard duty, no more poor food. The war was over, what a great find.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Chris, yes I think I am getting a hang of my M-6. It is a great machine. I always appreciate your responses to my posts.
Thanks to those who gave it a banner vote. I really appreciate it and I am just glad that I was blessed to find something that meant so much to someone in a such a difficult time for our great nation. It made me think of the person behind the artifact, which I seem to forget sometimes.
I am really trying to get some better pictures. If only he had carved it a little deeper!!!! I will keep trying.

Very nice. I recommend you also consider that it may be a persons name scratched in the plate (e.g. W.E. _on)..

Regardless always a nice day when you can locate Yankee brass.

I agree that's exciting and it actually gives me the shivers....BUT we need a better photo. Use natural light... no flash. Try taking it when the sun is low...in the morning or late afternoon. What an outstanding Find!

With the right photo this will definitely be a BANNER find!

I agree with Joe, with the right pic, this could make the banner. It's an outstanding find! I suggest rubbing some Baby Powder over the area in hopes of getting it in the engraving, then taking the pic without a flash and in low natural light. Breezie

Had a closer look. There seems to be much more stratches than words/letters. The 'W' is clear & the rest could be there but the picture is not good enough to tell. There is definately more stratches over the letters which might mean someone tried to stratch over what was written. Someone who mentioned a personal/initials idea might be right. Because if someone 'pinched/found' someone elses buckle, they many want to cover their tracks.

Do you agree (seeing the piece in person), that there are lots more stratches?

The yellow lines show etching that is easier to see in person. I put a circle and question mark between the W and E because there looks to be a small "A" scratched between them? It is something I did not see earlier. Any ideas?

This shows how clear the N is in one picture, but hard to see in another. Getting one photo showing all of the letters is driving me crazy.
I also drew and arrow showing the center of the W in WON. This is the hardest letter to see, even in person.
