Short days, frozen ground on the way...

Because it gets dark before I get home from work I turn my metal detecting attention to hunting the backyard.

I used to do this blind at night.
I now have a new tool which I tried out for the first time this weekend.

A little red light gives me just enough illumination to select my settings and read the VDI numbers on my AT Pro ~ The rest is up to my Garrett Carrot Pro Pointer to light up and sniff out. :lightbulb:

Not much but scraps yet during my trial runs but this area has been diligently hammered before.
The evening's dirt fishing catch :fish: the morning after :sunny::

APR 6, 1869 thingy
umbrella topper
harness buckles
muzzle loader round
end part of a spoon or fork handle
rivets/fasteners

Dark at 5pm sucks. I am not good in the dark

Hey, Randy Combs. It's very challenging for sure, that's why I stick close to home. Reminds me a lot of night diving...

I hear ya brother...I can't stand the short days--it seriously cuts into detecting time and I'm lucky if I get an hour in before it gets dark when I WFH. Maybe we can get together for some :occasion14: and put a bunch of finds under the rug and try to find them with the detectors :laughing7:. BTW, if you're writing a song called "DST Blues", we're in EST, not DST...Eastern Standard Time. DST-good, EST-bad :icon_thumleft: Let's hope for a mild one this year.

It's always a coin toss for me...I never fail to mix those 2 up! :laughing7:

Nice!!! Congrats!!! Red light. Cool. I'll have to try that:)

Finding good stuff like that you might have to get a head lamp to find the stuff laying on da surface, everything looks different at night

The red light is great Digger RJ because it keeps your eyes well adjusted to the dark.

Good idea, islamoradamark. I have one of those too for the beach. The detector mounted light works well because it keeps my eyes used to the dark and only lights up the VDI display. I keep a regular flashlight on hand in case I need it.

The time change is very troubling for us metal detecting. Nice hunt, keep up the good work! :occasion14:

It's the turkey is keep me inside today not the darkness... :laughing7:
