Things are warming up. I usually get the bug to get out in the afternoons. My oldest son has been going with me lately and we are having a lot of fun finding mostly junk. Finding local things is towards the top of my list. This stuff is from the past few days. Historically 24 million Troy ounces were mined here, more than the California and Alaska rushes combined. Cripple Creek is the neighboring town to mine, and it's always nice to add to the collection! I find quite a few locks but don't recognize this one. Let me know if you know what it is. I'll tumble it later. The stirrup is a kids size!!! You can't quite see it in the first picture but there is a miners candle holder there! Getting out is what's it's about! I hope you all get out before the grass gets in your way. IMG_20200430_182314229~2.jpgIMG_20200430_182347515.jpgIMG_20200430_182921176~2.jpg

Nice find.s

last time I was there it was still one of the few active SILVER mining towns.

Where's the gold? With 24 million ounces mined, they surely left a few crumbs behind for you! Gary

Their crumbs would be a major strike where I prospect in Vermont.

Thanks Colonial kid, and RJ. It's always nice out hunting. Gary I find a few piece of ore every year. Here is a old piece of ring stamped Cripple Creek on the back. IMG_20200501_063704055~2.jpg Hi No gold, It is all in telluride form here. Prospecting the creeks usually you only find flour gold. Quite a few locals around have roasted the ore.

Great finds. Lots of history in Cripple Creek. Glad you’re saving some of it!

Absolutely killer watch fob, man oh man! Congratulations on the great finds. Sub 8-)

Hi HCW, I was not aware they were mining silver here. I just thought is was a byproduct. That's good information thank you. Thanks dts, I am glad I'm in a place where there is some left. Hi Sub, I thought it was a souvenir, but watch fob makes it cooler!!! Happy Hunting out there!

I grew up in Manitou Springs and Woodland park. never prospected as a kid though. I have wanted to go back and try cripple creek. I used to go there and see the wild donkeys, maybe find turquoise in the gravels. what is that big hills name that has the crashed cars on it, if its still a thing to see..
the history there is awesome . if you can see it past the casinos.. I just want pan and sluice there sometime.. maybe someday. good luck. awesome finds.

The soil in your area is extremely kind to your iron relics, that horse stirrup is a nice find.

Thanks Dave, Some things come out pretty nice. I am getting ready to make a zapper for the big items. Lately I get just as excited about a big iron signal as a coin signal. Probably because I don't hear the coin ones that often. Happy Hunting!!

That hill is My Pisgah. It has been closed since I arrived. It was a place to park and look out over the scenery. I have often times thought it would be a great place to detect. The streets are tore up right now in front of the casinos. I don't detect there because it has been churned up so much with new fill dirt. Down shelf road there is a nice patch of bedrock that I want to drop my sluice in. We go hunting for turquoise quite a bit. I love it up here!! Drop by if you are ever back this way!!

You are still kicking butt with the local relics!
I've dug other mining town stuff, (Victor, Leadville, Black Hawk), but I don't think anything from Cripple Creek.
That's a fantastic find!
Kudos,
Carl

Diggingthe1- I live in the Springs. Cool relics. I've found some turquoise in your area & dropped my sluice in shelf & phantom and didn't even find flour. Weird with the mine being so close. Im looking forward to the snow to melt off in the Buena area. Picked up some Dream Mat and built a new sluice. Think I'll piggy back my keen with miners moss till I get some confidence with the dream mat.

I thought Cripple Creek was famous for a bunch of wire gold found in the creek the town was named for. Also, isn't "the vault" a huge and almost pure gold cavity found in Cripple creek as well?
Cool stuff you're finding. Keep up the great digs!

Nice piece of history, congrats! :occasion14:

thank you for the answer (mt Pisgah). I also appreciate the invite . I might just do that sometime.. One time I had to go to teller county court for speeding. the judge was a woman named Jackson . She put the fear of the law into me for sure.. lol.. thanks Jeremy..
