Things are warming up. I usually get the bug to get out in the afternoons. My oldest son has been going with me lately and we are having a lot of fun finding mostly junk. Finding local things is towards the top of my list. This stuff is from the past few days. Historically 24 million Troy ounces were mined here, more than the California and Alaska rushes combined. Cripple Creek is the neighboring town to mine, and it's always nice to add to the collection! I find quite a few locks but don't recognize this one. Let me know if you know what it is. I'll tumble it later. The stirrup is a kids size!!! You can't quite see it in the first picture but there is a miners candle holder there! Getting out is what's it's about! I hope you all get out before the grass gets in your way. IMG_20200430_182314229~2.jpgIMG_20200430_182347515.jpgIMG_20200430_182921176~2.jpg

Excellent !
Thanks Etrac, it's nice when something good finally comes along!
You are still kicking butt with the local relics!
I've dug other mining town stuff, (Victor, Leadville, Black Hawk), but I don't think anything from Cripple Creek.
That's a fantastic find!
Kudos,
Carl

Thanks Carl, it's a good time of year with the found wet and the grass still knocked over. I grew up in Golden but haven't found anything from Blackhawk. Boy has that place changed.
Diggingthe1- I live in the Springs. Cool relics. I've found some turquoise in your area & dropped my sluice in shelf & phantom and didn't even find flour. Weird with the mine being so close. Im looking forward to the snow to melt off in the Buena area. Picked up some Dream Mat and built a new sluice. Think I'll piggy back my keen with miners moss till I get some confidence with the dream mat.

Dirtheads, that sounds like fun getting the sluice out. Mine had been in the garage for years. I sure like that cache Creek. I found a seated dime at those ruins! That turquoise is fun to find! Sounds like you have a good operation going. I hope gold prices go up!
I thought Cripple Creek was famous for a bunch of wire gold found in the creek the town was named for. Also, isn't "the vault" a huge and almost pure gold cavity found in Cripple creek as well?
Cool stuff you're finding. Keep up the great digs!
Hi xr7ator, the wire gold came from Brekenridge. You will have to Google the Cressen vug. It was huge full of gold crystals!!! Stay safe down there!

Nice piece of history, congrats! :occasion14:

Thanks Professor, you never know till you dig it!
Love the Cripple Creek bucket!

Thanks Steve, It is going near the center of a good case of finds from there!
Absolutely cool finds digger and yes loads of gold has and still its coming out of the ground in your neighborhood. I'm hoping the day will come when CCV goes underground, as they plan to do someday.

Hi tamrock, they started coming down towards Cripple Creek with their pit. It's astonishing the amount of dirt they have moved since I have been here. They do talk about hard rock someday.
Is this the same cripple creek sung about by "The Band"?

Hi Coinstar, I think the lyrics are based in Louisiana. Where he meets Bessie!
