Stumbled across my first jasper point yesterday. I have no idea what type it is. I had a few people tell me that it is a Halifax, but I’ve never seen one made of jasper. The large flake scar on one side almost looks like a flute, but I'm probably wishful thinking. Any help is appreciated.

What state was this found in? Jasper is directly related to volcanic activity. There are no fossils in Jasper. Your point has fossils. It’s chert. View attachment 2189286
I think what you circled is a flake scar. It was found in southwest Virginia. I have several chert points from this area and non of them look anything like this. I'm fairly certain that it is Jasper after doing some research on known sources in my area.

Nice score
Looks to have some base damage? If so Halifax is a good guess imo.
It definitely has some basal damage, I'm just not sure how much is missing. I'm 90% sure its a Halifax as well, I just can't figure out the large flute like scar. Certainly it was intentional, as all the other scars run diagonal.

I’ve found some with the flutes but mine are stack removal and not to old

It has a nice stain to it. One time I found a point in the creek and it was a dull black and really ugly. So I decided to clean it in vinegar. The next day the stain was gone and I was looking at a quartz point lol.
