Hey guys. I could really use your expertise here. I dug this copper from the field where I got the 1753 and 1737 coppers. This one is thick in spots, and thin in other spots. After a round of electrolysis, I see "16" on it, but on the left side rather than the right or bottom. There are no other numbers after the 16. I thought, maybe it's "91", but the 1 is pretty clear and the correct positioning makes it "16". I can't make out anything else. It's maybe a little bigger than a quarter. The 1737 was at about 6-7", and this one was an easy 8"+. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If I found it I would weigh, measure, and take a few more pix, both sides. Maybe not quite as close as that and in focus. Post it in "what is it" forum too. Sorry I can't help ya, only those suggestions might help

I will work on that. Thanks a lot :)

two things I can tell from your pic. 1. it's round, 2. it's copper. Hope that helps

Mystery solved...it's a round piece of copper then lol. Sucks when all you have to work with is an iPhone.

I decided to give up on this one, although I might throw it in the electrolysis tank for an hour. It can't hurt it any. The worst that can happen is it completely dissolves lol. I did put it back in for ten minutes and can see part of a design, but nothing I can get a pic of or identify. Oh well, maybe the next one will be in better shape...and made of silver lol

Looks like alot of the totally toasted stuff that I find! It stinks, 'cause you can barely make out a few features, and you know i'ts really old, but you can't get an ID. At least you can actually use an I phone, I can barely use my old flip phone :laughing7:

It took some training from my 11 year old, but I got er after a while :)

You know what really hurts? An 80 yr. old woman comes out to my body shop. She's using a walker. I'm helping her get her stuff out of her Buick that was just totaled out by the Ins. co. She's out there taking pics with her new smart phone! I'm thinking, am I the only one on this planet that don't know how to use one of these things!

The times are changing. Not for the better in my opinion. If only I could get my son to get away from those damn video games and do something outside!

agreed! I have been taking my oldest with me when he comes to visit and my other two are pretty young but like going in the fields with me.

Hey ace, try what I did before you toast it with electric. Soak it in olive oil for a few hours, then hold it in the light, wipe off the excess oil and see if you can make out anything.

Ok, I'll try that. I'll let you know if I can see anything. Thanks bud

I've been able to get dates off of toasted coins by using vinegar and baking soda. Wouldn't recommend on anything you want to sell though.

I am thinking I might see a bust facing to the left?? But then again, my wife suggests I am seeing busts every time we go out in public, and I can't deny it.

Hey guys. I know I was gonna let this one die, but I just couldn't help myself. Gave it a gentle rub with baking soda and then a soak in olive oil. I can now see a bust. It's weird because it is facing left and centered left. Any thoughts?

Just an illusion from the corrosion. :)

Ahhhhhh BALLS! Lol

Actually, I think I have it. I found this coronation medallion last spring. A friend pointed it out to me. I can't believe I didn't come up with it. There is a little design on the other side, and it is similar. The bust is the same, left facing, centered left.

How does it line up with the two, is the diameter the same?
